Methods are provided for upgrading disadvantaged feeds for use in lubricant base stock production. A disadvantaged feed can be upgraded by hydroprocessing the feed to form a hydroprocessed bottoms fraction. The hydroprocessed bottoms fraction can then be used as a feed for forming Group I and/or Group II lubricant base stocks, optionally in combination with a conventional feed for lubricant production. The remaining portions of the hydroprocessing effluent can optionally be used for FCC processing and/or for other conventional applications of naphtha and distillate fractions.

Lubricant base stock production from disadvantaged feeds

Methods are provided for producing Group II/III lubricant base oil products where at least a portion of the feedstock for forming the lubricant base oil product is a solvent extract fraction from a Group I lubricant production facility. This can increase the overall volume of feedstock available for production of Group II/III lubricant base oils by using a lower value stream (Group I solvent extract) as a portion of the feedstock. The solvent extract fraction can be added to a full range lubricant feedstock or to a portion of a lubricant feedstock, such as adding an extract fraction to a higher viscosity portion (such as a heavy neutral portion) of a feedstock for lubricant production, while a lower viscosity portion (such as a light neutral portion) is processed without addition of an extract fraction.

Basestock production from feeds containing solvent extracts

Provided are lubricant compositions with improved oxidative stability and frictional and wear resistance properties for use in engine oil applications. The lubricant compositions include: i) a first base stock selected from a Group I base stock, a Group II base stock or a combination thereof at 50 to 80 wt %; ii) a block copolymer at 1 to 10 wt %; iii) a viscosity modifier at 3 to 15 wt % selected from polymers and copolymers of methacrylate, butadiene, olefins and alkylated styrenes; and iv) an additive package including a combination of antioxidants, dispersants, detergents, friction modifiers and antiwear agents at 2 to 30 wt %.

Method for the control of deposit formation in formulated lubricating oil by use of ionic liquids as additives

A lubricating oil formulation is disclosed inhibiting a pour point of about &#x2212;45&#xb0; C. or lower and a Brookfield viscosity at &#x2212;40&#xb0; C. of about 60,000 cP or less comprising a mixture of a base stock selected from the group consisting of a Group III base stock, a GTL base stock, synthetic and natural waxy hydrocarbon hydroisomerate base stock, and mixtures thereof in combination with HVI-PAO. Also disclosed is a method for reducing the pour point and enhancing the &#x2212;40&#xb0; C. Brookfield viscosity performance of a lubricating oil comprising a base stock selected from the group consisting of Group III base stock, GTL base stock, synthetic and natural waxy hydrocarbon hydroisomerate base stock, and mixtures thereof by adding HVI-PAO to such base stock.
