Described herein are example methods, devices and systems for motion compensation in ultrasonic respiration monitoring. A respiration detection system includes a first probe placed on a front side of a patient's body and a second probe placed on a dorsal side of the body. The first probe includes an ultrasound transducer, a first accelerometer unit and a magnetic field sensor unit, and the second probe includes a second accelerometer unit and magnetic field sensor unit. Due to respiration of the patient, the abdominal region of the body moves, creating measurement errors when an ultrasound beam is directed towards an internal structure (internal tissue region) inside the patient's body. Correction for such measurement errors uses input data from the first and second accelerometer units and the magnetic field sensor unit.

Systems and methods for motion compensation in ultrasonic respiration monitoring

A method of non-invasively monitoring the respiration of a patient comprises: transmitting ultrasound into the body toward an internal structure of the patient's body, the internal structure being one of the liver, the spleen or a kidney; selecting a depth range; measuring the phase of ultrasound echo signals from the internal structure at multiple points along the depth range for at least a first and a second echo signal, the first and second echo signals being received at different times; detecting the motion of the internal structure within the patient's abdomen by reference to differences in the measured phase between the first and the second echo signals; and thereby monitoring the respiration of the patient by associating movement of the internal structure with movement caused by respiration.

Ultrasonic method and apparatus for respiration monitoring

Described herein are example ultrasonic transducer device probes configured to be placed on a patient's body to direct an ultrasonic beam towards an internal structure inside the body and receive ultrasonic echo signals from the internal structure. A probe includes a housing in which an ultrasonic transducer is located, a transceiving face of the transducer being at an acute angle relative to a front plane of the housing. An accelerometer unit and a magnetic field sensing unit are also housed inside the probe. The transducer, accelerometer, and magnetic field sensing unit are embedded in a body of a first material comprising ultrasound non-sonolucent material. A front face of the body of the first material and a recess extending down to the transceiving face is covered by a body of a second material comprising ultrasound sonolucent material having a tacky or non-tacky front surface.

Ultrasonic transducer device for respiration monitoring

A needle holder for use in an image guided intervention procedure. The needle holder includes a clip for holding a needle and a guide arrangement for supporting the clip and directing the needle at a desired angle relative to a patient's body. The clip includes a releasable connection such that the needle can be disengaged from the guide arrangement by a lateral movement of the clip and/or the guide arrangement relative to the longitudinal axis of the needle.

A tape for securing an ultrasound probe to the skin may include a sonolucent silicone gel for transmitting ultrasound from an ultrasound transducer to the body. A method of manufacturing an adhesive silicone product may include a step of treating the adhesive composition or components of the composition to remove air or prevent the formation of air bubbles, in order to provide a sonolucent adhesive product.
