In a particular embodiment, an apparatus is disclosed that includes a battery pack structure that includes a plurality of battery cells. The apparatus also includes wireless battery management system that includes a first wireless communication device, a second wireless communication device, and a radio frequency passive repeater. The radio frequency passive repeater includes a conductor cable, a first antenna at a first end of the conductor cable, and a second antenna at the second end of the conductor cable. In this example embodiment, the first antenna is located within a first wireless signal reception zone of the first wireless communication device and the second antenna is located within a second wireless signal reception zone of the second wireless communication device.

Communication in a wireless battery management system for a battery pack structure

A tire monitor includes a sensor generating tire data and a plurality of control modules having phase locked loop circuits. The control modules generate output signals carrying the tire data. A first of the control modules is configured to generate first output signals having a first frequency and according to a first protocol. A second of the control modules is configured to generate second output signals having a second frequency and according to a second protocol. In examples, the output signal can be transmitted in parallel to different computing systems.

A battery management system includes a primary module in wireless communication with a plurality of sensing, or secondary, modules over a range of frequencies within a predetermined frequency band. Each of the primary module and the sensing modules can be configured to transmit with an antenna polarization setting chosen from a plurality of polarization settings. Each of the sensing modules is configured to communicate with the primary with a predetermined one of its polarization settings for each channel. The primary module is also configured to communicate with a respective secondary module with a predetermined polarization setting for each channel.

A tire monitor for mounting on a wheel rim, the tire monitor comprising a housing having a first part (A) configured to receive a component substrate () and a second part (B) configured to receive one or more other components of the tire monitor, for example a battery. The first and second parts of the housing are non-coplanar and non-parallel with one another. When the tire monitor is mounted on the wheel rim, the substrate is non-coplanar and non-parallel with a plane (T) that is tangential to the wheel rim at the location where the tire monitor is mounted on the rim and preferably the substrate plane is substantially radial with respect to the wheel rim.

Methods, systems, and devices are provided for tire pressure detectors that may operate according to one of two or more selectable frequencies. Tire pressure detectors may include an RF section to modulate pressure information from a pressure sensor onto an output signal. The frequency of the output signal may be selectable from two or more frequencies based on a frequency required by a vehicle that the tire pressure detector is to be used with. An RF matching circuit may be coupled between the RF section and an antenna, with an impedance of the RF matching circuit selected based of the frequency of the output signal. Such impedance matching may provide a constant power level output from the tire pressure detector independent of the frequency of the tire pressure detector transmissions.

A tire pressure detector employs a reduced power consumption mechanism comprising a PLL circuit including a VCO, that is operated in response to the logic states of an input data stream and a power amplifier configured to be externally located to an integrated circuit. The input data stream includes tire pressure information and is configured to be encoded to have multiple logic states. A micro-controller is employed to control the VCO, turning the VCO, and/or the amplifier, on and off for a certain period, according to the pattern of each data bit of the input data stream thus providing reduced current consumption. This tire pressure detector thus embodies an optimized circuit arrangement in terms of power efficiency.
