A method and apparatus are provided for the transmission of radio data between at least two transmitters and one receiver, said method employing at least one multi-carrier data transmission signal. The aforementioned multi-carrier signal is formed by a temporal succession of symbols comprising: (i) informative data elements, and (ii) reference elements known as pilots which are distributed within the informative data elements according to a pre-determined pattern. Moreover, the value of said pilots at transmission is known to the receiver. At least two transmitters use different pilot patterns such that, at a give instant and a give frequency, only one pilot can be received (possibly with other informative data elements) by the receiver from other transmitters.

A cellular radiotelephone signal is disclosed of the type that includes a main symmetrical bi-directional channel comprising a main up-link and a main down-link for the low- or medium-speed transmission of signaling and control information and data; and at least one supplementary channel which is assigned solely to the down-link and which is intended for high-speed data transmission using a multi-carrier technique, which ensures that the data are distributed over frequency/time space and which is structured in the form of pre-defined entities. Each entity contains a pre-determined number of symbols. At least one symbol from each entity of the supplementary channel includes a position identifier, which can be used to identify the position of the symbol within the entity, such that a terminal can read the symbol position identifier and deduce therefrom the start of the next entity, thereby obtaining synchronisation at the relevant entity of the supplementary channel.

The disclosure relates to a cellular radiotelephone signal of the type comprising, a principal bidirectional symmetrical channel, comprising a principal uplink path and a principal downlink path, particularly to guarantee transmission of data at low or medium rate and of the signalling information and commands, at least one auxiliary channel working only in the downlink sense, particularly to guarantee the data transmission at high rates, using a multi-carrier technique which gives a distribution of data over time and frequency, with a sub-frame structure. The beginning of at least one sub-frame in the supplemental channel is offset by a time interval of fixed duration which is not zero (&#x394;t) with relation to a determined time (t), fixed in the principal channel, such as to permit a synchronization at the sub-frame level of the supplementary channel in a terminal, by instantaneous detection of said determined time (t) and addition of said time interval (&#x394;t).
