A cartridge incorporating a projectile assembly, the projectile assembly having a base, mid body component housing a marking powder and metallic nose cap. The projectile's mid-body component houses liquids in a cylindrical compartment, where set-back and rotation induce chemical mixing, and in flight allowing for a chemical reaction, and at impact the projectile undergoes wall failure in the mid body, resulting from shear and residual rotational momentum, the actions in combination releasing and expelling marking materials, the ejection suspended signature producing materials, including liquid, powdered metals or fine particles released into the atmosphere emit and reflect light, the signature materials producing an observable signature at the projectile's impact location.

Mid-body marking projectile

A cartridge incorporating a projectile assembly, the projectile assembly having a base, mid body component housing a marking powder and lighter metallic nose cap. The projectile's mid-body component undergoes wall failure at impact, the wall failure is induced as forward momentum of the base and other residual forces act to expel the marking powder from the projectile, the manner of ejection suspending a low density material with contrast dye, in the vicinity of the impact, providing a gunner with visual cue in regard to a projectile's impact location.

A training ammunition cartridge comprises a projectile and a cartridge case with a pyrotechnic propellant. The projectile has a projectile body with at least one compartment therein forming a void and containing a material that transitions from a solid to a liquid after set-back and after exiting from a barrel of a gun. The void is of such configuration as to cause the liquid material therein to induce forces and moments that, after a period of stable ballistic flight, destabilize the projectile and shorten its flight. A warhead assembly, comprising a cylindrical or conical metal body, having an inner wall with a plurality of channels or grooves extending parallel to a central longitudinal axis. Preformed fragments are inserted in the channels or grooves and a liner with an explosive fill is positioned within the metal body, retaining the preformed fragments in place. The warhead assembly on detonation produces a bimodal distribution of fragments with adequate mass and velocity with optimized mixed fragmentation that defeats or otherwise incapacitates a target or set of targets.

A high velocity munition comprises a projectile, mounted on a cartridge case, that can be fired from an automatic cannon or weapon. During storage or transport an IM venting device included in the cartridge case prevents the propellant charge from firing the projectile, leaving the cartridge damaged, but intact upon premature ignition. The IM vent exhaust channel is filled with a solid fusible material that melts at a lower temperature than the ignition temperatures of the igniter (or primer) and the propellant charge of the projectile. At least one non-fusible, ruptureable member is included in the IM vent channel and positioned to provide structural integrity to the fusible material in the channel. Alternatively or in addition to the fusible material, a shape memory alloy ring surrounds the igniter (or primer) and separates from the cartridge when the cartridge reaches a temperature that causes auto-ignition.
