The present technology relates to a flame retardant, a cellulose fiber separator containing the flame retardant, a component comprising the separator and an electrolyte, and electrochemical cells and batteries comprising same as well as the uses thereof.

Cellulose-based separators comprising flame retardant, and uses thereof in electrochemistry

The present technology relates to self-standing electrodes, their use in electrochemical cells, and their production processes using a water-based filtration process. For example, the self-standing electrodes may be used in lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). Particularly, the self-standing electrodes comprise a first electronically conductive material serving as a current collector, the surface of the first electronically conductive material being grafted with a hydrophilic group, a binder comprising cellulose fibres, an electrochemically active material, and optionally a second electronically conductive material. A process for the preparation of the self-standing electrodes is also described.

Cellulose-based self-standing films for use in Li-ion batteries

This application describes a process for the preparation of flexible electrode-separator elements or assemblies, which includes the application of an electrode material on the separator. The electrode material comprises graphene, for instance produced by graphite exfoliation. The electrode-separator elements obtained by the process as well as their use in electrochemical cells are also described.

Flexible electrode-separator elements and processes for their preparation

A process for recycling an electrode material comprising graphene and an electrochemically active material is described. The process comprises a step of adding, in any order, water and a non-miscible solvent to the electrode material, thereby forming a biphasic system comprising an organic phase and an aqueous phase; and a step of separating and filtering the organic phase to recover graphene. The process optionally comprises additional steps of washing, drying, and/or thermally treating. Also described are electrodes including the recycled graphene, as well as the electrochemical cells and their uses.

Process for recycling graphene from an electrode material

Described is a method or process for modifying the surface of carbon-coated electrochemically active materials such as complex oxides like olivine-type cathode materials. For instance, the surface of the carbon-coated powder material is modified to increase its hydrophobic characteristics. Also, specific groups may be grafted on the carbon surface of cathode material using the diazonium chemistry, for instance, by the spontaneous grafting of aryl ions generated in situ by the diazotization of an arylamine compound.
