Process flow is created that represents a process-based software application. User specified connector creation information for creating connectors is received. User specified element information are received for associating elements with the process flow. One of the elements is a service task, and a connector is selected and configured from the connectors. The process-based software application is executed in a first computing environment. Interactions between the process-based software application and the connector framework are provided during the executing of the process-based software application in the first computing environment. The process-based software application is executed in a second computing environment. The process-based software application does not interact with the connector framework during the executing of the process-based software application in the second computing environment.

Implementations generally relate to facilitating process building. In some implementations, a method includes receiving, at a client device, process element information, where the process element information defines process elements, wherein the process elements are nodes displayed in a process, and wherein the processelements are associated with process element groups based on categories. The method further includes displaying the process elements in a palette region in a user interface of the client device. The method further includes displaying the process in a workspace region in the user interface based on process elements from the palette region that are selected by a user.

In accordance with an embodiment, described herein are systems and methods for use with business process management (BPM) systems or environments, including software development tools for developing software applications that are associated with business processes (business process software applications, business process applications, process applications, or processes). In accordance with an embodiment, the system comprises a column-based process editor and graphical user interface, that can utilize a column-based format to model and display a process, for example a dynamic process, which can subsequently be deployed and executed within the system or environment. For example, the column-based process editor and graphical user interface can include various graphical elements to indicate configured properties of artifacts of a dynamic process. Interaction with the graphical elements enables users to review, edit, and/or remove particular properties associated with the dynamic process.

Implementations generally relate to initiating processes. In some implementations, a method includes receiving, at a server, an object from a client device. The method further includes determining an instance of a process initiation event, where the process initiation event triggers a process to initiate, and where the process initiation event is based on the object and one or more process initiation policies. The method further includes initiating the process upon the determining of the process initiation event.

An example method facilitates associating data objects with elements of a process to be implemented via a process-based software application. The example method includes determining that a developer has added a particular software element to a software application being developed by the developer; accessing metadata describing the software element; and using the metadata to automatically associate the software element to one or more data objects to be used by the software element during running of the software application. A process cloud may facilitate implementing the method by automatically performing data mapping for software elements, such as approval tasks, forms, and so on, by determining appropriate task outcome data objects with reference to data characterizing a software flow of the software application, and by similarly automatically selecting and/or creating data objects for forms, which may be associated with or used by a task.

In one implementation, a data transformation tool is configured to allow a user to specify how types of data should be mapped to another type of data in a reusable fashion. In one implementation, the data transformation tool analyzes data selected for input, the desired data output, and determines a list of potential mappings that may be used between the compliant and non-compliant systems. The mappings may be generated through transformational expressions and defined as a data wrapper. Once the definition of the one or more mappings are defined, data transformation tool generates one or more files allowing the execution of the transformation of the input data to the output data during an execution phase, such as runtime.

An example system and method facilitates developing and interacting with connectors that represent or are associated with services or interfaces to be implemented in a computing environment. The example system includes a connector editor backed by a connectors framework that specializes and links to the specific editor and dialogs that enables a developer to customize and configure any of plural available connectors for a specific purpose (e.g., to connect a process step to a particular type of web service). Furthermore, the connectors framework and associated editor(s) enable all of the connectors of available connector types to be configured using the same life cycle and to be automatically parameterized to use different data when running on the different environments, e.g., different test and production environments.

A system and method for providing a process player for use with a business process design environment. In accordance with an embodiment, a user can select, configure, and play an instance of a business process being developed in the design environment. During play of a selected business process instance the user can configure and play interactive activities of the selected instance. For example, the user can walk through an instance of the business process, while impersonating different users or roles in its interactive activities.

A system and method for providing an editor for use with a business process design environment. In accordance with an embodiment, the system provides an editor and framework that allows a user to create and edit business processes and business architecture projects. The editor can render or edit a model which is based on a metamodel or defined ontology, and can be provided, e.g., in computer applications, browsers and tablets. In accordance with an embodiment, the user can use the editor to define a business process and/or a business architecture project, including attributes such as goals, objectives, strategies, and value chains. Models can be synchronized as part of an overall business process development.
