A computer-implemented method comprising receiving, by an input device from a host computing device, a display refresh rate for a display, both the display and the input device being communicatively coupled to the host computing device. The method further includes computing, by the input device, a frequency multiplier based on the display refresh rate and a selected report rate of the input device, the report rate corresponding to a frequency at which the input device reports activity of the input device to the host computing device and calibrating, by the input device, the report rate to a new report rate based on the computed frequency multiplier. The method may further include reporting activity of the input device to the host computing device at the new report rate.

Embodiments herein include a processing system and method for transcribing audible information, including converting audible information or data received from a user into alphanumeric data. The alphanumeric data can be processed allowing a user to provide input that improves of the accuracy of the alphanumeric data, facilitates the transfer of the alphanumeric data to other electronic devices by a computer or other electronic device, and/or improves the communicative or expressive properties of the alphanumeric data in an electronic communication that is provided to one or more users. In some embodiments, the transcribed and/or translated text can be automatically formatted by a program for use in a software application. More specifically embodiments of the present application disclose a system and program that can embellish transcribed text to alert and provide suggestions for the correction of potentially inaccurate transcribed and/or translated text, and/or provide potential emojis to add into or replace text.

A computer mouse includes a housing, one or more processors disposed in the housing, and a trackball and a scroll bar configured on a top side of the housing and controlled by the one or more processors. The scroll bar has a width that is at least twice a diameter of the scroll bar. The housing has a triangular shape defined by three corners and three sides, each of the three sides coupled to a corresponding two of the three corners. A center of the trackball is configured at a location between a center point of the top side of the housing and a first corner of the three corners. A computer peripheral device (e.g., a computer mouse) includes an optical sensor configured to generate optical data corresponding to a surface that the computer peripheral device is placed upon and a processor(s) configured to determine, based on the optical data, a relative displacement of the computer peripheral device along the surface, identify one or more characteristics of the surface based on the optical data; compare the one or more characteristics with one or more corresponding baseline characteristics stored in memory; classify, based on the comparing of the one or more characteristics with one or more corresponding baseline characteristics, a type of the surface; and adjust, based on the classified type of the surface, an aspect of the determination of the relative displacement of the peripheral device or an operation of the optical sensor that alters the generating of the optical data.

A method and system configured to receive a first report from a computer peripheral device by a receiver, determine that the first report is corrupted or received at a rate slower than the first report rate, compute a current trajectory of the computer peripheral device based on one or more intervals of movement data in the first report, compute a predicted trajectory of the computer peripheral device based on the first report, compute an incremental displacement of the computer peripheral device based on the predicted trajectory. The method and system can further generate data indicative of a position or displacement of the computer peripheral device based on the predicted trajectory of the computer peripheral device and send the data indicative of a position or displacement of the computer peripheral device at an interval that is less than twice a period of the first report rate to the host computing device.

Power efficiency based on a dynamic report rate

A method of operating an input device can include generating a light beam by a light source module, steering the light beam towards a target location on an underlying surface, steering a reflected light beam towards an image sensor of the input device, receiving the reflected light beam by the image sensor, and generating tracking data by the image sensor that corresponds to a two-dimensional (2D) movement of the input device on the underlying surface. The method further includes determining that the input device is operating: on and in contact with the underlying surface when the reflected light beam received by the image sensor is located on a first set of pixels of the image sensor, and above and not in contact with the underlying surface when the reflected light beam is located on a second set of pixels of the plurality of pixels of the image sensor.

Methods and systems for determining a displacement of a peripheral device are provided. In one example, a peripheral device comprises: an image sensor, and a hardware processor configured to: control the image sensor to capture a first image of a surface when the peripheral device is at a first location on the surface, the first image comprising a feature of the first location of the surface; execute a trained machine learning model using data derived from the first image to estimate a displacement of the feature between the first image and a reference image captured at a second location of the surface; and determine a displacement of the peripheral device based on the estimated displacement of the feature.

A method and system configured to receive a first report from a computer peripheral device, determine a trajectory of the computer peripheral device based on the first report, and determine a predicted activity level of the computer peripheral device based on the first report. A system including a first device with a surface and an identification feature that includes or encodes machine-readable data related to the surface, and a second device including a sensor and one or more processors coupled to the sensor that are configured to determine a relative displacement of the second device as it is moved along the surface of the first device. The second device receives the machine-readable data related to the surface from the identification features from the first device and configures the second device to determine the relative displacement along the surface differently (e.g., improves displacement tracking) based on the machine-readable data related to the surface.

Certain embodiments of the invention include an input device (e.g., a computer mouse) including a processor, a housing including a top side, the housing configured to support a user's hand, and a detachable cover plate configured to attach to the top side of the housing and support a user's hand. The cover plate can include a shape memory polymer (SMP) disposed thereon, where the SMP is pliable and operable to conform to the user's hand when a temperature of the SMP is at or above a threshold value. Furthermore, the SMP can be firm and non-conforming when the temperature of the SMP falls below the threshold value. A heating unit controlled by the processor can be configured to control the temperature of the shape memory polymer. The detachable cover plate can include the shape memory polymer disposed in areas configured to contact a user's palm and thumb.

Embodiments disclosed herein generally include a system and a method of controlling a portable electronic device based on the interaction of the portable electronic device with an electronic device, such as a mounting device. Embodiments of the disclosure may include a system and a method of providing information to the portable electronic device that causes the portable electronic device to perform one or more desirable functions or processes based on the portable electronic device's interaction with the mounting device. In some embodiments, the portable electronic device may respond differently when it is caused to interact with differently configured mounting devices. Some aspects of the invention may include an apparatus, method and/or computing device software application that are configured to more easily setup and reliably control a portable electronic device based on the interaction of the portable electronic device with the mounting device.
