In a method and an apparatus for navigating through subtitles of an Audio Video data stream an address information of one or more played back data units is stored together with the subtitle information of said played back data units during play back of said data units. One or more of said stored subtitle information can be displayed. Following the selection of one of said displayed subtitle information the stored address information of the data unit corresponding to the selected subtitle information is retrieved and the corresponding data unit is accessed using said retrieved address information. Playing back the accessed data unit conveniently allows to watch and listen to a scene including subtitles again, e.g. by a few clicks on the remote control.

Method and apparatus for navigating through subtitles of an audio video data stream

A method is provided in order to determine connection topology of a home network. The main idea of the present invention is to send out a topology determination message on each link of the network, wherein the topology determination message is constituted of two consecutive packets, first one being a broadcast packet with a predetermined payload that identifies it as a topology determination packet, and second one being a unicast packet with the same content and a non-existent destination MAC address. If a node receives both the broadcast and unicast packet from a sending node, the sending node is determined to be on the same physical link with said receiving node and the MAC address of the sending node is added into a local link nodes list of said receiving node, otherwise if said receiving node receives only the broadcast packet from the sending node, the send node is determined not to be on the same physical link with said receiving node.

Method for connecting an IEEE1394 remote device to a cluster of IEEE1394 devices through a wireless link comprising a first wireless device connected to the cluster and a second wireless device connected to the remote device, wherein the remote device and the first wireless device for a first wired bus and the device cluster and the second wireless device form a second wired bus. The method comprises the steps of, representing the remote device on the cluster through the first wireless device and representing the devices of the cluster to the remote device through the second wireless device, such that the remote device and the devices of the cluster function as if these devices were part of a single IEEE1394 bus.

The invention concerns a device in a communication network, the device comprising a component for obtaining a permanent identifier of the devices connected to the network and a component for establishing an association table between the permanent identifier of a device and a temporary identifier of the device in the network. The component for establishing the association table is adapted to read the permanent identifier of a device, the reading sequence of the permanent identifiers on the devices being based on a parameter pertaining to the device performing the reading. A method for reserving an isochronous resource over a link between a first bus and a second bus, the link including a first interface device connected to the first bus and a second interface device connected to the second bus. The reservation of the resources over the link is transparent to the devices connected to the busses. A process and a device for determining node address correspondence in a communication network in which each node is allocated a unique address after each network reset, wherein the addresses of a given node before and after a reset may differ. The process comprises the steps, at the level of a node connected to the network, of determining network topologies based on self-identification packets received before and after network reset, and of comparing these topologies for determining correspondence among addresses of a node before and after reset.
