A micro cell management system and method are provided. The micro cell management system in one example includes a communication interface configured to exchange communications with one or more wireless micro cells and a processing system coupled to the communication interface. The processing system is configured to obtain GPS information for each wireless micro cell of a micro cell cluster, obtain backhaul information for each wireless micro cell of the micro cell cluster, select a master cell for the micro cell cluster, with the master cell comprising a wireless micro cell having one or both of an optimum GPS signal or an optimum backhaul signal, and configure the master cell to perform one or more of relaying GPS data to other wireless micro cells of the micro cell cluster or exchanging backhaul data for the micro cell cluster.

A communication server to facilitate modification of records in a domain name system (DNS) server comprises a session initiation protocol (SIP) network interface, a DNS network interface, and a processing system. The SIP network interface is configured to receive a SIP information message comprising a DNS modification indicator. The processing system is configured to, responsive to the DNS modification indicator, process the SIP information message to identify DNS modification parameters in the SIP information message, and process the DNS modification parameters to generate a DNS modification command for the DNS server. The DNS network interface is configured to transfer the DNS modification command for delivery to the DNS server.

Modification of domain name systems using session initiation protocol messages

A wireless communication device comprises a wireless communication interface, a processing system, and a user interface. The wireless communication interface is configured to wirelessly receive a mixed media signal comprising a plurality of audio streams originating from different source devices. The processing system is configured to isolate the audio streams and generate graphical representations of each one of the audio streams. The user interface is configured to display the graphical representations of each one of the audio streams and receive audio stream modification instructions from a user. The processing system is configured to process the audio stream modification instructions to generate at least one modified audio stream based on the audio stream modification instructions. The user interface is configured to display a graphical representation of the modified audio stream and audibly output a modified mixed media signal comprising the modified audio stream.

Examples disclosed herein provide systems, methods, and software for implementing default data quotas for wireless devices. In one example, a packet data network gateway is configured to identify a communication for a wireless device and transfer a quota query for the wireless device to an online charging server. The packet data network gateway is further configured to receive actual and default quota information from the online charging server and implement the default quota information when the communication link between the gateway and the online charging server is interrupted.

The system in one example embodiment includes media gateways (MG-Bs) of a first network interface of an interconnect network and a soft switch B (SSW-B) within the first network. The SSW-B receives a media session initiation from a wireless communication device B (WCD-B) of the first network, wherein the WCD-B is attempting to initiate a media session to a wireless communication device A (WCD-A) of the second network, obtains a MG-Bx network address of a selected MG-Bx of the one or more MG-Bs, forwards a call initiation information to a SSW-A of the second network, and receives a media gateway MG-Ax network address from the SSW-A, wherein the WCD-B of first network is placed in communication with the WCD-A of the second network via the selected MG-Bx and the selected MG-Ax.

Call setup system and method for setting up a wireless media session extending from a first network to a second network

Example methods and systems for requesting information from the Internet Domain Name System (DNS) based on a destination and one or more codecs of a source specified within a computer-readable invitation to establish a communication session are described. A source gateway or a user agent device can generate the invitation. A DNS record associated with the destination can specify codecs used by the destination or a gateway the destination uses to carry out communication sessions. A proxy server that received the invitation and the DNS record can select a gateway that uses a codec that matches a codec used and preferred by a gateway. The proxy server can forward the codec to selected gateway, in particular, to an IP address and port associated with the selected gateway, for notifying the destinations of the requested communication session. The invitations can comprise SIP INVITE messages.

Methods and systems for using DNS-dip to select codec for a communication session

A method and corresponding system is provided to help strike a balance between alleviating load among macro cells and reducing excessive signaling when UEs travel through small cells. In one embodiment of the method, a UE may function to receive an indication of the size of a coverage area, calculate current speed, determine that the calculated speed exceeds a threshold speed, and responsively hand over to a different coverage area. In another embodiment of the method, a RAN entity may function to estimate of the size of a coverage area, receive an indication of the current speed of a UE traveling through the coverage area, determine that the calculated speed exceeds a threshold speed, and responsively instruct the UE to hand over to a different RAN. Other examples are possible.

Small cell handover technique based on speed

A method and corresponding system is provided help establish a zone-based paging configuration. In accordance with the method, a RAN entity may evaluate the level of traffic in several small cells of the RAN, identify those small cells that have at least a threshold level of traffic, and responsively construct a new tracking area that includes the identified small cells. In another aspect of the method, a UE that is registered in a current tracking area, may move into coverage of a new sector and receive from a base station associated with the new sector two or more tracking area IDs. The UE may then determine that at least one of the tracking area IDs is indicative of the tracking area in which the UE is currently registered, and responsively operate in the new sector without transmitting a tracking area update message.

A system and method for determining base station location from neighbor lists of client devices is disclosed. When base station attempts and fails to acquire a satellite-based location fix, it can identify client devices operating within its service range, and query them for their respective neighbor lists. Upon receiving neighbor lists from one or more of the queried client devices, the base station can merge the lists into a composite list. The base station can then determine the locations of the base stations in the composite list, and compute a centroid from the locations. The base station can then adopt the centroid location as its own location.

A query requesting one or more routes for a mobile device call is generated. The query includes a converted telephone number of the mobile device and location information of the mobile device. One or more responses identifying one or more routes for the mobile device call are received from a centralized routing function. The one or more responses each include an originating trunk group identifier. The originating trunk group identifier includes an egress trunk group. Upon receiving the one or more responses, the mobile device call is routed using an outbound trunk group of a response from the centralized routing function.

Call routing using domain name service and electronic number mapping

A method, system, and medium are provided for managing CDMA reference cell identifiers (IDs) in a long-term-evolution (LTE) network using Session Initiation Protocol (SIP). A network node subscribes to RF coverage information and location information of eNodeBs and CDMA base stations within the network. After receiving this information from the eNodeBs and the CDMA base stations, the network node uses the information to determine CDMA base stations that are in proximity to each eNodeB. The eNodeBs in the network subscribe to CDMA reference cell IDs of those CDMA base stations that have been determined by the network node to be in proximity to the respective eNodeB. After receiving the CDMA reference cell IDs from the network node, the eNodeB utilizes the received information to select a CDMA base station to utilize when a network customer's UE requires circuit-switched services.

Management of CDMA reference cell identifiers in an LTE network

Methods and systems for using coverage or capacity classifications regarding a macro RF network to manage registration of femtocells with a service provider network (SPN) so as to avoid signaling overload are described herein. After a wide-scale power outage within an area where multiple femtocells are located, the femtocells can power on and attempt to register with the SPN at about the same time. The femtocells can scan RF signals received from the macro network and classify the received RF signals with respect to capacity or coverage of the macro network at the time of transmitting the RF signals. A device within the SPN can determine whether classification of the received RF signals is associated with dropping or accepting a registration request associated with the classified RF signals. The SPN device can accept the registration request or drop the registration request and request the femtocell to transmit another registration request.

Methods and systems for using macro coverage to manage femtocell registrations, so as to avoid signaling overload

Methods are disclosed for managing subscribe messages that are sent to various applications on behalf of a mobile device. The subscription manager determines which applications the mobile device can access and receives a notification that the mobile device has become registered with the network. It then communicates a subscribe message to one or more of the applications to which the mobile device has access so that the mobile device can communicate with the applications.

Methods are provided for tracking data corresponding to a mobile device that accesses a web page. Once a mobile device is registered with a network, the mobile device is instructed to request permission before accessing a web page. An access request is received, and based on a user profile, the access request is approved such that the mobile device may access the web page. Access data that corresponds to the mobile device accessing the web page is collected so that it can be added to and stored in a database.
