An airbag module having a first shell () forming a first gas chamber (GI), a first inflator for the first gas chamber (GI), an adaptive influencing device for influencing the ventilation or shape of the first gas chamber (GI), and an actuation unit () for the influencing device. The actuation device () has a second shell () forming a second gas chamber (G), and a gas source. The state of the influencing device changing upon actuating the gas source. A tensioning element having a first end () is coupled to the adaptive influencing device or forms the device, and a second end () is coupled to the second shell () when the second gas chamber (G) is not filled and is decoupled from the second shell () when the second gas chamber (G) is filled.

A plastic cover element () for a driver airbag module having a side wall () extending from a lower end () to an upper end (), enclosing an interior space. The upper end () is covered by an overlap () which extends in a radial direction across the side wall () and in an axial direction back toward the lower end () of the side wall (), forming a screen section () extending generally parallel to the side wall. The outside surface of the overlap has at least one groove () to receive the sewn edge of a casing. An axial section () of the groove () extends into the lower end area of the screen section () and in the area of this axial section () and at least one reinforcing rib extends parallel to it between the screen section () and the side wall ().

An airbag housing is carried on a formed part extending from a lower section of an instrument panel for a motor vehicle. The formed part forms at least a front section of an upper wall of a footwell assigned to the vehicle occupants. A knee airbag is disposed in the airbag housing.

An airbag has an airbag envelope () having two side walls () enclosing a gas chamber. The first side wall () constitutes herein the impact surface and the second side wall () constitutes the support surface. A traction element () furthermore extends from a first end to a second end, whose first end is connected to the outer side of the second side wall () in order to force the inflated airbag to assume a curved shape. In order to achieve an easy production and assembly, the second end of the traction element () is also connected to the outer side of the second side wall (), wherein the operating length of the traction element () is smaller than the length of the section of the second side wall () that is spanned thereby.

Described is a gas bag for a motor vehicle with a gas bag envelope surrounding a gas space, wherein the gas bag envelope comprises a front section () having an impact area () and a rear section () directly connected with the front section () via a circumferential edge () having a support area (). Here, the rear section () has a folding for the contouring of the gas bag. In order to achieve that the gas bag adapts to a convexly bent surface shape of a part of the vehicle interior structure against which it rests without external catching bands or the like the folding consists of at least one first fold () extending parallel to the rear section and at least a second fold (), wherein the second fold () is arranged in the first fold () and substantially stands perpendicularly to the rear section ().
