A drive system for a vehicle for variable distribution of torque, from a primary input and secondary input, between a left wheel and a right wheel of a vehicle, the drive system includes a first and second torque output shaft, one for each of the left wheel and the right wheel, an open differential, and independently controllable first and second clutch packs, configured such that: torque from the primary input is transferred to each of the torque output shafts via the clutch packs; torque from the secondary input is transferred to each of the torque output shafts via the open differential; torque from one output of the open differential is summed with torque from one clutch pack output in the first torque output shaft; and torque from another output of the open differential is summed with torque from the other clutch pack output in the second torque output shaft.

The present invention concerns a method of controlling a double clutch transmission () comprising two clutches () one of which that is transmitting torque being the active clutch while the other one constituting the incoming clutch characterized by combining the incoming clutch preparation and the torque handover from the active clutch by over actuating the incoming clutch and shutting off the active clutch in a non proportional way, based on a feedback signal from the incoming clutch.

Provided is a method for controlling a dual clutch transmission of a vehicle with a first clutch associated with a first set of gears and a second clutch associated with a second set of gears. The method includes the steps of a) engaging the first clutch to transmit the torque through one of the associated first set of gears, while the second clutch is not engaged, and b) thereafter engaging, before the first clutch is fully closed, the second clutch at least partially and releasing the first clutch assembly until the first clutch is completely disengaged.
