A method for assembling one or more microchips into respective holes in a substrate surface of a separate receiving substrate for microchip insertion that is out-of-plane in relation to the substrate surface. The microchips are placed on the substrate surface and moved by one or more magnetic fields affecting a ferromagnetic layer of each microchip so that the microchips become out-of-plane oriented in relation to the substrate surface and are assembled into the holes.

Method and arrangement for assembly of microchips into a separate substrate

Self-actuating articles including, for example, self-actuating needles and/or self-actuating biopsy punches, are generally provided. Advantageously, the self-actuating articles described herein may be useful as a general platform for delivery of a wide variety of pharmaceutical drugs that are typically delivered via injection directly into tissue due to degradation in the GI tract. The self-actuating articles described herein may also be used to deliver sensors and/or take biopsies without the need for an endoscopy. In some embodiments, the article comprises a spring (e.g., a coil spring, a beam, a material having particular mechanical recovery characteristics). Those of ordinary skill in the art would understand that the term spring is not intended to be limited to coil springs, but generally encompass any reversibly compressive material and/or component which, after releasing an applied compressive force on the material/component, the material/component substantially returns to an uncompressed length of the material/component (e.g., the within 95% of the length of the material/component prior to compression).

Self-actuating articles

A spray nozzle chip comprising: a first layer provided with a first layer orifice, and a mechanically flexible nozzle layer provided with a nozzle orifice, wherein the first layer has a valve seat arranged aligned with the nozzle orifice, wherein the spray nozzle chip has a valve functionality obtained by movement of the nozzle layer relative to the valve seat due to pressure changes, and wherein the nozzle layer is arranged at a distance from the valve seat when the nozzle layer is in a default non-pressurised state, whereby a gap with a gap length (L) is formed between the nozzle layer and the valve seat, wherein the gap length (L) is smaller than a dimension of a specific bacterial type, to thereby seal against bacterial ingrowth through the nozzle orifice of the specific bacterial type.

A capillary driven microfluidic device with blood plasma separation means that can be used to separate, meter and transfer a blood sample. The blood separation means can be arranged as a capillary pump by the configuration of a porous membrane and the microfluidic device.

Plasma separating microfluidic device

A drug delivery device for administration to a subject is provided. In some embodiments, the drug delivery device includes a reservoir containing an active pharmaceutical ingredient and a potential energy source. The drug delivery device also includes a trigger operatively associated with the potential energy source, where the trigger is configured to actuate at a predetermined location within the subject. The drug delivery device also includes a rupturable membrane disposed along a flow path extending between the reservoir and an outlet, where the membrane is configured to rupture when the trigger is actuated. Once the trigger is actuated, the potential energy from the potential energy source may be released to expel the active pharmaceutical ingredient in a jet through the outlet.

Drug delivery device

A device for detaching cells or tissue from a cavity in a subject, the device includes: an elongated member arranged to be moved within a lumen of a needle or a catheter; and at least one flexible member arranged at a distal end of the elongated member, wherein the flexible member is configured to be brought between a first, constrained configuration within the lumen of the needle or catheter, and a second, expanded configuration outside said lumen, wherein the flexible member in the second, expanded configuration is configured to conform to an inner geometry of a cavity in which the device is inserted.

Biopsy/cytology device for sampling cells or tissue in mammals

Components with relatively high loading of active pharmaceutical ingredients (e.g., drugs), are generally provided. In some embodiments, the component (e.g., a tissue interfacing component) comprises a solid therapeutic agent (e.g., a solid API) and a supporting material (e.g., a binder such as a polymer) such that the solid therapeutic agent is present in the component in an amount of greater than or equal to 10 wt % versus the total weight of the tissue interfacing component. Such tissue-interfacing components may be useful for delivery of API doses e.g., to a subject. Advantageously, in some embodiments, the reduction of volume required to deliver the required API dose as compared to a liquid formulation permits the creation of solid needle delivery systems for a wide variety of drugs in a variety of places/tissues (e.g., tongue, GI mucosal tissue, skin) and/or reduces and/or eliminates the application of an external force in order to inject a drug solution through the small opening in the needle. In some cases, a physiologically relevant dose may be present in a single tissue interfacing component (e.g., having a relatively high API loading).

Components with high API loading

Self-righting articles, such as self-righting capsules for administration to a subject, are generally provided. In some embodiments, the self-righting article may be configured such that the article may orient itself relative to a surface (e.g., a surface of a tissue of a subject). The self-righting articles described herein may comprise one or more tissue engaging surfaces configured to engage (e.g., interface with, inject into, anchor) with a surface (e.g., a surface of a tissue of a subject). In some embodiments, the self-righting article may have a particular shape and/or distribution of density (or mass) which, for example, enables the self-righting behavior of the article. In some embodiments, the self-righting article may comprise a tissue interfacing component and/or a pharmaceutical agent (e.g., for delivery of the active pharmaceutical agent to a location internal of the subject). In some cases, upon contact of the tissue with the tissue engaging surface of the article, the self-righting article may be configured to release one or more tissue interfacing components. In some cases, the tissue interfacing component is associated with a self-actuating component. For example, the self-righting article may comprise a self-actuating component configured, upon exposure to a fluid, to release the tissue interfacing component from the self-righting article. In some cases, the tissue interfacing component may comprise and/or be associated with the pharmaceutical agent (e.g., for delivery to a location internal to a subject).

Self-righting systems and related components and methods

A method for transferring an atomically thin layer comprising providing a target substrate and a donor substrate on which a first atomically thin layer has been formed. The method further comprises disposing an adhesion layer at the donor substrate or at the target substrate. The method further comprises bringing the target substrate and the donor substrate together. Further, the method comprises bonding together the donor substrate, the adhesion layer and the target substrate and removing the donor substrate.

Method of material transfer

The microfluidic device has a first reservoir that preferably includes a first liquid. The first liquid is being held by a capillary stop valve in the first reservoir. A second reservoir is in fluid communication with the first reservoir. The second reservoir has a second liquid and a sample support disposed therein. The second reservoir has an inlet opening defined therein. A draining unit is adjacent to the second reservoir. The draining unit is in fluid communication with the second reservoir. The draining unit has a first absorption member disposed therein.

Autonomous microfluidic device for sample preparation

The method is for preparing a sample in a microfluidic device. A microfluidic device is provided that has a first reservoir in fluid communication with a second reservoir in fluid communication with and adjacent to a draining unit that has a first absorbing member disposed therein. The first reservoir contains a first liquid that is held in the first reservoir by a capillary stop valve connecting the first and second reservoirs. The second reservoir has a sample support disposed therein. A second liquid, containing substances, is added to the second reservoir. The second liquid contacts the first liquid and the first absorbing member. The first absorbing member absorbs the second liquid and the first liquid. The substances adhere to the sample support.

Method for separating blood plasma and metering thereof

The disclosure relates to a cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) shunt for treatment of hydrocephalus, comprising a valve having an inlet port and an outlet port, which ports are for draining CSF, and a control port for regulating the drainage of CSF through the valve according to a hydrostatic pressure provided to the control port, which hydrostatic pressure is dependent on the body position of the patient. The disclosure further relates to a method for treatment of hydrocephalus comprising regulating drainage of CSF based on a hydrostatic pressure that is dependent on the body position of the patient.

Cerebrospinal fluid shunt for treatment of hydrocephalus

The invention relates to a miniaturised fluid flow regulating device comprising a fluid flow channel with an inlet portion, an outlet portion and a flow regulation passage between the inlet portion and the outlet portion, an elongated beam element arranged in the flow channel, such that a pressure difference over the inlet portion and the outlet portion causes the beam element to bend and regulate fluid flow in the flow regulation passage. The invention further relates to a breath analysis device comprising such a flow regulating device for regulating a flow of exhaled breath.

Miniaturized fluid flow regulating device

A microfluidic device comprises an inlet port for liquid, and a capillary channel in fluid connection to the inlet port for receiving liquid from the inlet port, the channel having a defined volume. At least one dissolvable valve is provided comprising a dissolvable membrane having a first side oriented towards the capillary channel, and a capillary connected to the second side of the dissolvable membrane such that when the membrane is dissolved by the liquid, liquid is transported through the valve to the second side of the membrane by capillary action. A method of controlling a flow of liquid uses such a microfluidic device.
