A multi-mode electrosurgical apparatus for use in cold plasma applications, electrosurgical cutting, electrosurgical coagulation and mechanical cutting is provided. The electrosurgical apparatus includes a housing having a passage extending therethrough, an electrically conducting tube being disposed in the passage of the housing; an insulating outer tube disposed around the electrically conducting tube coupled to the housing, the electrically conducting tube being movable along a longitudinal axis of the housing and outer tube; an electrically conducting blade coupled to the distal end of the electrically conducting tube, and a transformer assembly disposed on a proximal end of the housing, the transformer assembly including a first transformer and a first switch for selectively coupling the first transformer and an external second transformer to the electrically conducting tube for providing electrosurgical energy thereto.

Multi-mode electrosurgical apparatus

A multi-button electrosurgical apparatus includes a housing having a passage extending therethough, a distal end configured to support an electrode; at least four switches disposed on a surface of the housing configured to be selectively activated by a user; and three wires connected between the housing and a connector, the connector configured to be operatively coupled to an electrosurgical generator, a first wire being coupled to the electrode and configured to receive electrosurgical energy from the electrosurgical generator, a second wire being coupled to a first switch and configured to generate a first activation signal and a third wire being coupled to a second switch and configured to generate a second activation signal, wherein a third and fourth switch are coupled to the first wire and the second or third wire via a respective reactive switching element configured to generate third and fourth activation signals.

Multi-button electrosurgical apparatus

A multi-button electrosurgical apparatus includes a housing having a passage extending therethough, a distal end configured to support an electrode; at least four switches disposed on a surface of the housing configured to be selectively activated by a user; and three wires connected between the housing and a connector, the connector configured to be operatively coupled to an electrosurgical generator, a first wire being coupled to the electrode and configured to receive electrosurgical energy from the electrosurgical generator, a second wire being coupled to a first switch and configured to generate a first activation signal and a third wire being coupled to a second switch and configured to generate a second activation signal, wherein a third and fourth switch are coupled to the first wire and the second or third wire via a respective reactive switching element configured to generate third and forth activation signals.

A return electrode detection and monitoring system and method thereof are provided. The system and method of the present disclosure provide for a combined universal recognition feature, that is to identify whether a return or neutral electrode coupled to an electrosurgical generator is a capacitive electrode or a split or non-split (solid) resistive electrode. Furthermore, the system and method will monitor both capacitive and resistive return electrodes when the electrosurgical generator is operating in the 4 Mhz range to notify an operator when the return electrode is not coupled enough which would effect power delivery to the patient and hence effect on the targeted tissue.

Return electrode detection and monitoring system and method thereof

An electrosurgical device to generate a plasma stream and method to perform endoscopic or laparoscopic surgery within a patient's body. The electrosurgical device includes an electrode operatively coupled to an electrosurgical generator to receive electrical energy therefrom, the electrode being concentrically disposed within an inner noble gas conduit to form a plasma channel. An outer electronegative gas conduit is disposed in surrounding coaxial relation relative to the inner noble gas conduit to cooperatively form an electronegative gas channel therebetween such that the electrode heats the noble gas to at least partially ionize the noble gas to generate the plasma stream to be directed to the surgical site to perform the surgical procedure while the electronegative gas sustains the plasma stream at the surgical site and dilutes the noble gas adjacent the surgical site. An outer aspiration conduit may be provided to remove fluid and solid debris from the surgical site.

A planar transformer power supply for an electrosurgical device to minimize stray capacitance comprising a step down/step-up isolation transformer and circuitry to limit the effects of a short circuit in the output of the planar transformer power supply on the input to the planar transformer power supply to enhance power capacity at a low load impedance as low as from about 5 ohms to about 10 ohms and to operate at resonance at the output of the planar transformer power supply.
