A computing device is disclosed. The computing device includes a light source configured to output light. The computing device also includes a light sensor configured to measure the level of light surrounding the computing device. The computing device further includes a control mechanism operatively coupled to the light source and light sensor and configured to adjust the level of output light based on the measured level of light surrounding the computing device.

Computer light adjustment

An electronic device has a display and has a touch sensitive bezel surrounding the display. Areas on the bezel are designated for controls used to operate the electronic device. Visual guides corresponding to the controls are displayed on the display adjacent the areas of the bezel designated for the controls. Touch data is generated by the bezel when a user touches an area of the bezel. The device determines which of the controls has been selected based on which designated area is associated with the touch data from the bezel. The device then initiates the determined control. The device can have a sensor for determining the orientation of the device. Based on the orientation, the device can alter the areas designated on the bezel for the controls and can alter the location of the visual guides for the display so that they match the altered areas on the bezel.

Techniques and systems for centralized access to multimedia content stored on or available to a computing device are disclosed. The centralized access can be provided by a media control interface that receives user inputs and interacts with media programs resident on the computing device to produce graphical user interfaces that can be presented on a display device.

Multimedia control center

This is directed to controlling media playback based on particular touch gestures detected by a touch-sensing interface. The electronic device can identify particular touch inputs, such as combinations of tapping and holding a touch sensitive surface, or circular motions. In response to detecting a particular touch gesture, the electronic device can perform a playback operation specifically associated with the detected touch gesture. To provide a consistent user interface with the device, some of the particular touch gestures can match other inputs provided using a button, for example a button integrated on a wired headset. In such an embodiment, the same combination of tapping and holding a touch input and pressing and holding a button can control the same electronic device operations.

Playback control using a touch interface

A computer readable medium containing program instructions for controlling a parametric equalizer is provided. Generally, a computer readable code is provided for displaying a composite equalization curve, wherein the composite equalization curve is formed from at least a first frequency filter with a first center frequency, a second frequency filter with a second center frequency, and a third frequency filter with a third center frequency. A computer readable code is provided for allowing a dragging movement of the first center frequency, the second center frequency, and the third center frequency.

Methods and systems for controlling the screen display appearance for a digital processing system. In one exemplary embodiment, a data value, typically stored in a non-volatile memory, is retrieved; this data value represents an appearance of an enclosure of a digital processing system. An appearance of a display of this digital processing system is then set based upon the appearance of the enclosure. In one example, the appearance is the color of the enclosure which determines various colors and backgrounds of objects in a graphical user interface of the digital processing system. Other methods, apparatuses and computer readable media for causing methods to be performed are also described.

System and method for controlling the screen display appearance for a data processing system

A user interface and methods for controlling and presenting information concerning scrolling of an on-screen document are described. In one aspect of the invention, an exemplary method of the invention generates a graphical user interface to provide functionality of controlling a scroll amount for an on-screen document. In this method, a graphical representation of a scroll activator is displayed to enable the user to activate the scroll function using a cursor control device. In addition, a graphical representation of multiple scroll amount indicators is also displayed along with the graphical representation of the scroll activator. The multiple scroll amount indicators graphically illustrate various magnitudes of scrolling. According to another aspect of the present invention, an exemplary method of the invention provides a coasting function when an on-screen document scrolls. This exemplary method includes detecting a user interaction with a scrolling device, determining that the coasting function is in an enabled state, scrolling the on-screen document while detecting the user interaction, detecting that the user interaction ended, and then continuing to scroll the on-screen document after detecting that the user interaction ended. The user interaction with the scrolling device may end at any portion of the scrolling device. Other aspects of the present invention relating to controlling scrolling of the on-screen document are also described.
