This invention relates to a curable coating composition comprising: I. at least one acetoacetate functional polyester further comprising the residues of a. a hydroxyl component comprising: i. a diol in an amount ranging from 70 to 100 mole %, based on the total moles of (i) and (ii); and ii. a polyol in an amount ranging from 0 to 30 mole %, based on the total moles of (i) and (ii); b. a carboxyl component comprising a polycarboxylic acid compound, a derivative of polycarboxylic acid compound, or a combination thereof; and c. an alkyl acetoacetate, a diketene, or a combination thereof in an amount ranging from about 5 to about 50 weight %, based on the total weight of (a), (b), and (c). II. a curing agent having two or more aldehyde functional groups, and III. a basic catalyst.

Curable coating compositions

Polyesters having both α,β-unsaturated groups and moieties containing activated methylene or methine groups, such as those of beta-ketoester and malonate, are curable in the presence of a base catalysts to form crosslinked networks. Formulations based on such polyesters are suitable for use in coatings and cure at temperatures less than 230° C. without the use of isocyanates.

Self-curable and low temperature curable coating compositions

This invention pertains to a curable composition comprising a first component having &#x3b2;-ketoester and/or malonate functionalities and a second component having two or more aldehyde functionalities. The compositions can be cured at room temperature or low temperatures to yield crosslinked networks that are capable of providing desirable properties for coating and adhesive applications. The reactive functionalities of &#x3b2;-ketoester, malonate, and aldehyde can be either on polymers as the main binders or on small molecules as the crosslinkers. The curable compositions desirably are either solventless or organic solvent based.

Suspension of proppants in hydraulic fracturing applications can be strongly affected by the cross-sectional shapes and lengths of the fibers present in the wellbore treatment compositions. For instance, it has been observed that crimped cellulose ester fibers with a trilobal cross-section and an optimized length can provide enhanced suspension of proppants in aqueous fracturing fluids. Furthermore, the present invention demonstrates that non-round cellulose ester fibers can provide superior proppant suspension properties relative to polylactic acid fibers with a round cross-section.

Fiber configurations for wellbore treatment compositions

A fiber delivery system capable of providing cut fiber segments for use in treating an oil and/or gas well. The fiber delivery system can utilize bales of a continuous filamentary tow that are transported to the well site from a remote manufacturing location. At the well site, a multifilament strand can be pulled off the bale, opened, and cut to provide cut fiber segments. The cut fiber segments can be mixed with other well treatment components to create a well treatment medium that is introduced into the well as part of a drilling, stimulation, or cementing process.

The process is carried out in the liquid phase, in the presence of an acid-active catalyst containing MCM-22 family molecular sieve, and under specified conditions.

Production of high purity ethylbenzene from non-extracted feed and non-extracted reformate useful therein

The present invention comprises the use of sulfite additives to reduce discoloration of L-ascorbic acid produced from acid or aqueous solutions of 2-keto-L-gulonic acid. In one aspect, the present invention comprises a continuous process for producing L-ascorbic acid from an aqueous solution of 2-keto-L-gulonic acid. The use of sulfite additives reduces product stream color and improves product recovery by binding to high molecular weight reaction by-products. In a continuous process, the reaction stream is separated from residual sulfite and sulfite-bound by-products to produce a product stream enriched in aqueous ascorbic acid for recovery, and an enriched 2-keto-L-gulonic acid stream which is recycled to the reactor. The in situ use of sulfite additives during the reaction increases the overall yield of L-ascorbic acid, with no loss in selectivity of the synthesis.

The present invention provides methods and an apparatus for the manufacture of an L-ascorbic acid product in high yield by direct conversion of an aqueous solution containing 2-keto-L-gulonic acid by contact with an acid catalyst or under thermal self-catalyzed conditions at a conversion level that maximizes the formation of L-ascorbic acid and minimizes decomposition of the L-ascorbic acid thus formed. The separation process for L-ascorbic acid and KLG is operated in such a way that an efficient separation process allows the majority of the KLG to be recycled for further conversion. The product stream from the separation process is then subjected to a recovery step to obtain crystalline L-ascorbic acid product.

Continuous process for producing L-ascorbic acid

Disclosed is a process wherein a solution of a carboxylic acid in a first solvent and an alcohol are fed to a simulated moving bed reactor (SMBR) containing a solid(s) to produce a first stream comprising a solution of an ester of the carboxylic acid and the alcohol and a second stream comprising the first solvent. The solid(s) present in the SMBR facilitates the esterification reaction and the separation of the first solvent from the carboxylic acid. The process is particularly valuable for the preparation of an alkanol solution of an alkyl 2-keto-L-gulonate ester (AKLG) from an aqueous fermentation broth containing dissolved 2-keto-L-gulonic acid (KLG) by feeding the fermentation broth and an alkanol to a simulated moving bed reactor which contains a solid acidic esterification catalyst to produce a stream comprising an alkanol solution of an ALKG. The alkanol solution of an ALKG may be used directly to convert the ALKG to ascorbic acid (Vitamin C).
