This invention relates to a process for producing a sodium titanate that can be utilized in an ion exchange media. The sodium titanate ion exchange media can be subsequently used to remove contaminants such as metals from water in a variety of applications. The sodium titanate can be synthesized by utilizing a source of titanium that includes a nano-crystalline titanium having a mean primary crystallite diameter of about 1 nm to about 30 nm.

Synthesis of sodium titanate and ion exchange use thereof

A filter for removing soluble, colloidal, and insoluble particles from a fluid, including lead using a first filter media for filtering soluble material from the fluid, a second filter media, adjacent and in fluid communication with, the first filter media, for filtering soluble material from said fluid, wherein the first and second filter media create a physical non-soluble particle barrier at their interface for capturing non-soluble particles, that when retained at the interface, become soluble over time in the fluid, and are subsequently removed by the second filter media. At least one of the filter media can be fibrillated nanofibers that are loaded with finely subdivided media of powdered ion exchange resins. A third filter media may be placed between the first and second filter media to enhance capturing and dissolving the physical non-soluble particles.

Uses of fibrillated nanofibers and the removal of soluble, colloidal, and insoluble particles from a fluid

Non-chloride containing regenerant compositions of potassium acetate or potassium formate, at least one surfactant and at least one chelating agent as well as methods for efficient regeneration of water softeners utilizing the regenerant compositions are disclosed. A preferred regenerant composition is a solution of potassium acetate or potassium formate with citric acid and octyl phenol ethoxylate.

Non-chloride containing regenerant composition for a strong acid cation exchange resin of a water softener

Regeneration of weakly basic anion exchange resins with a combination of an alkali metal carbonate and an alkali metal bicarbonate is disclosed. Preferably, the alkali metal is sodium. The combination can be naturally available sodium sesquicarbonate.
