A method for observing and directing the movement of a physical object from a location to a destination, the method comprising. The method includes receiving specifications governing the physical dimensions, a material composition, a movement parameter, and an environmental control condition requirement for a physical object and storing those specifications in a shared, distributed ledger accessible by the relevant actors in a supply chain. By requiring significant events to be recorded in the distributed ledger, such a confirmations of product conformance to the specifications, documentation regarding the transport and receipt of the object, and relevant environmental conditions, the movement of the object through the supply chain can be ascertained and controlled with a high degree of visibility and accountability.

Object tracking in a multi-modal transportation environment

A vehicle configuration and activity history tracking system and method. A first vehicle configuration and history blockchain is read from a first node in a vehicle configuration and history blockchain network comprising a plurality of nodes. A second vehicle configuration and history blockchain is read from a second node in the plurality of nodes of the vehicle configuration and history blockchain network. The first vehicle configuration and history blockchain is compared to the second vehicle configuration and history blockchain to determine whether the first vehicle configuration and history blockchain is valid. A new maintenance operation on the vehicle or a new modification of the vehicle is initiated using the first vehicle configuration and history blockchain in response to a determination that the first vehicle configuration and history blockchain is valid.

A method and apparatus for recording information for a part, such as history information for an aircraft part. A part history blockchain network comprises part history blockchains for the part that are configured to record the information for the part. Configuration and activity history information for the vehicle is recorded in vehicle configuration and activity history blockchains for the vehicle in a vehicle configuration and activity history blockchain network. A part installation notification is received by the part history blockchain network. The part installation notification identifies the part and indicates that the part is installed on the vehicle. The part history blockchains for the part are locked in response to receiving the part installation notification to prevent adding information for the part to the part history blockchains for the part for as long as the part is installed on the vehicle.
