Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example: obtaining for each of a plurality of subscribers to a wireless service that uses a licensed radio spectrum a respective user profile; determining based upon a particular user profile of a particular subscriber that the particular subscriber has access to a Citizen Band Radio Spectrum (CBRS), resulting in a determination; responsive to the determination being that the particular subscriber has access to the CBRS, generating an instruction to a user device of the particular subscriber to utilize the CBRS; and transmitting the instruction to the user device of the particular subscriber. Network-based systems and methods to selectively enable and disable citizen band radio spectrum (CBRS) radio for individual users

The described technology is generally directed towards a short message service (SMS) congestion manager that can evaluate, predict, and mitigate SMS congestion. The SMS congestion manager can be implemented within a short message services function (SMSF) of a fifth generation (5G) or subsequent generation cellular network. The SMS congestion manager can monitor a volume of non-access stratum (NAS) SMS messages in order to detect potential overload conditions wherein the volume of messages exceeds a capability of a network function. In response to detecting potential overload conditions, the SMS congestion manager can inhibit messages directed to the network function in order to prevent overloads from developing. The SMS congestion manager can use machine learning to learn to detect the potential overload conditions as well as to learn actions to take to address the potential overload conditions.

Short message service congestion manager

A UE can enable a VoWIFI service, receive hidden SSID information, and register with a core network via a RAN. The UE can monitor a first signal strength of a first signal from the RAN. The UE can scan for a second signal from a WLAN, and when found, can measure a second signal strength of the second signal. The UE can determine whether the first signal strength is at or below a first threshold. If so, and if the WLAN is untrusted, the UE can probe it with the hidden SSID information. If the untrusted WLAN responds, the UE can send an access request to an untrusted WLAN access point. The UE can receive, via the untrusted WLAN access point, an authentication challenge from an ePDG. If the UE passes the authentication challenge, the UE can register with the core network via the untrusted WLAN and the ePDG.
