Proppants are used in oil and gas extraction, particularly in fracking operations. The invention relates to resin coated proppants. The coatings on proppants have antimicrobial materials incorporated within these coatings. The antimicrobially active agents are incorporated in a concentration less than 70% by weight of the coatings or the active agent from these coatings can be released from these coatings in the environment of the proppants.

The invention relates to compositions, methods and preparation of such compositions to protect metals from corrosion, especially acid corrosion. The compositions of this invention may be added to acids to protect metals from their corrosive influence, particularly at elevated temperatures. These compositions are of particular utility in the oil and gas (petroleum) industry. Also disclosed are 'corrosion inhibition intensifiers' to enhance the corrosion inhibition properties of other corrosion inhibitors. Formulations which control ferric ions in acidic solutions are also disclosed. These may be combined with inhibited acids and some compositions provide both corrosion inhibition and ferric ion control.

This invention is directed towards additives for improving the thermal stability of polymers. The additives comprise low water solubility particles of transition metal compounds which are surface functionalized. A specific additive for nylons utilizes surface functionalized CuI particles and may also contain alkali metal halides.

Compositions for use in corrosion protection

Compositions having antimicrobial activity contain surface functionalized particles comprising an inorganic copper salt which has low water solubility. These types of inorganic salts may also be introduced in porous particles to yield antimicrobial compositions. The compositions may optionally comprise additional antimicrobial agents, salts with high water solubility, organic acids, salts of organic acids and their esters. The compositions may be added to various fluids used in the petroleum extraction industry, or used as coatings on components used in this industry. These antimicrobial materials may be used for reducing both anaerobic and aerobic bacteria and are also useful for reducing corrosion of ferrous components caused by anaerobic bacteria. Although such compositions may be used for any antimicrobial application, and some of the other important uses of these compositions are in wound care, personal care and waste processing.

These masterbatch compositions are added to other materials which are used to form various articles of manufacture with antimicrobial properties. The copper salts may be incorporated in the masterbatches as surface functionalized particles or the salts may be incorporated into porous particles prior to the formation of masterbatches.
