A method of assembling an electric motor by building the motor in one direction without the need to turn the motor end over end during the assembly process. The method includes providing a first housing section having motor control components preinstalled therein, and a shaft opening therein for the motor shaft; inserting the stator in the first housing section; temporarily inserting a jig into the stator to position the stator in the first housing section, and injecting a settable material between the stator and the first housing section to secure the stator within the first housing section. After the stator is secured, the jig is removed, and a rotor positioned in the stator, a fan is installed on the rotor, and a second housing section is interfit with the first housing section and the first and second housing sections are secured together.

An overspeed guard for an electric motor centrifugal actuator closely conforms to the peripheral contour of the component parts of the actuator and prevents the component parts from separating from the centrifugal actuator on overspeed of the actuator.

A blower motor housing for a fuel burner has a generally 'cup' shaped configuration with an open end that communicates with an opening in a side wall of a burner housing. The motor housing is mounted to the burner housing with the open end in register with the opening in the burner housing, thereby joining the interior of the motor housing with the interior of the burner housing. The electric motor is mounted within the motor housing with at least a portion of the stator winding extending axially beyond the open end of the motor housing and into the interior of the burner housing. A squirrel cage blower wheel is mounted to the motor shaft substantially concentric with the stator winding and extends at least partially along the axial length of the stator winding so that, during operation of the burner, cool intake air is moved past the stator winding as it is drawn into the blower wheel.

A module and method are disclosed for adding an electrical device such as a timer to an existing electric motor such as that found in a whirlpool bath system for driving a water pump. The module includes an input connector configured for mating with a connector on a power cable, an output connector configured for mating with a power connector on the electric motor, and a timer electrically connected between the input and output connectors. The method of adding an electrical device to an existing electric motor using the module comprises the steps of removing the power cable connector from the motor power connector, connecting the module output connector to the motor power connector, and connecting the power cable connector to the module input connector. In this manner, an electrical device which is prewired between the module connectors can be coupled to an existing electric motor without the use of tools, without the aid of an electrician, and without any risk of serious electrical shock.

Module and method for connecting timer to an electric motor

An integral ground lug assembly for a dynamoelectric machine in the form of a motor is provided which permits quick attaching for a ground wire. The assembly includes a lug integrally formed with an end-shield of the motor. The lug extends radially from the end-shield and has both an axially extending bore and a radially extending bore which intersect one another. In addition, the lug may incorporate a transverse bore intersecting the axial bore. A clip is received in the axially extending bore and interacts with the bore to prevent movement of the clip relative to the bore. This maintains the clip in place during shipment and thereafter. A fastener extends through the radial bore to press the clip legs together to pinch or hold the ground wire in place. The clip operation within the lug may be varied so that ground wire attachment may be made from a number of directions, depending, for example, on the applicational use of the matter.

A baffle and lead guide is provided for an electric motor with a reverse air flow cooling system for the motor. The motor includes a shell housing a stator assembly and a rotor assembly, the rotor assembly including an axially extending shaft. A first end shield closes one end of the shell and a second end shield closes the second end. The shaft is rotatably journaled in at least one of the first and second end shields and extends through at least one of the first and second end shields. A fan is fixed to the shaft between the rotor and the second end shield to rotate with said shaft. Leads extend to the second end shield through the motor shell from the stator assembly. The baffle is positioned axially adjacent the fan. Preferably, the baffle is annular in shape and includes at least one axially extending leg which defines a lead chute radially outboard of the fan to guide the lead wires past the fan.

A bracket of the present invention is for use with a capacitor motor having a stator and at least one end shield. The motor end shield has a side wall the bottom of which is spaced axially upwardly and radially outwardly from an axially outer face of the stator to define a gap. The bracket has a base, a pair of legs extending upwardly from the base to snappingly receive the capacitor, and a tab which is received in the gap to secure the bracket to the motor without the use of fasteners.

An enclosure is provided for a motor assembly having a stator, a rotor, a shaft extending from the rotor, a first end shield and a second end shield which rotatably support the shaft, and a voltage change switch. The enclosure encases the voltage change switch so that the voltage change switch is not normally accessible. The enclosure includes a housing which at least partly covers one of the endshields and a cover which covers the voltage change switch. The cover pivots with respect to the housing so that voltage change switch may be accessed and operated. The cover is held in place by a single screw to make accessibility, when needed, simple.

In an electric motor including a rotor on which is mounted a blower and a centrifugal actuator having spring-loaded lever members projecting through a centrally disposed recess in the spaced radial blade carrying back plate of the blower, an improved cover assembly arranged to be mounted on the rotor in interfitting relation with the spaced radial blades of the blower to cover the centrally disposed recess preventing contaminant build-up on the centrifugal actuator.

A strain relief for an electric motor power lead in which the power lead is turned at substantially a right angle and fitted between two spaced fingers carried by one endshield of the motor, with the fingers having opposed gripping surfaces thereon. An abutment carried by the outer endshield of the motor is forceably drawn into the opening between the fingers upon the endshields being firmly secured to the motor so as to cause the fingers and the abutment to firmly grip the power cord.

A self sealing motor lead wire grommet comprising a pair of identical molded plastic grommet members insertable into a slot or notch of the shell of an electric motor. The grommet members each have wire receiving notches in their inner abutting edges and grooves along their other edges for receiving a portion of the shell adjacent the slot. In the preferred embodiment the outer grommet member is inserted in the slot and is engaged by the end shield of the motor. Consequently, when the end shield is secured in position on the shell, both grommet members are clamped together in tight engagement with the shell and the end shield, and the lead wires are clamped in their respective wire receiving notches between the abutting grommet members thereby to close or seal the lead wire pass-through slot in the motor and to seal the lead wires to the grommet members.

A mounting system for an electric motor or the like utilizing three, one piece motor mounting brackets made of formed wire and secured to the motor at intervals therearound. The outer ends of the brackets are adapted to be bolted to a support, and the inner ends of the brackets may either be snapped into place on the motor or welded or otherwise rigidly attached to the motor. In certain embodiments of the mounting system, the brackets may be rotated relative to the motor so as to be folded adjacent to the motor for compact packaging of the motor for shipping and may be extended for mounting the motor on the support, and in other embodiments, the brackets may be shipped separately from the motor and then readily installed on the motor prior to installation of the motor.
