A computer-implemented method for determining a quality of driving of a vehicle is presented. Information indicating at least one driving condition may be received from at least one driving condition information indicating device. The at least one driving condition may be different from each of a plurality of driving metrics, and may affect a relationship between the quality of driving and at least one of the plurality of driving metrics. Information indicating the at least one driving metric may be received. At least one indication of the quality of driving of the vehicle may be determined based on the information indicating the at least one driving metric and the received information from the at least one driving condition information indicating device. The at least one indication of the quality of driving may be provided to at least one of the driver, a driving instructor, or an insurance provider.

System and method for determining a quality of driving of a vehicle

A method for identifying a primary vehicle associated with a user of a mobile device includes receiving an indication of a vehicle entry event from a mobile device and retrieving sensor data from the mobile device. The method further includes receiving an indication of a vehicle exit event from the mobile device, generating a trip log including portions of the sensor data, and storing the trip log in a trip database. A server, or other suitable computing device, then analyzes the trip log and a plurality of previously stored trip logs in the trip database to determine a primary vehicle corresponding to the user of the mobile device. The method may allow a computing device to assign gathered mobile device data to a specific household vehicle.

Methods and systems for analyzing vehicle operation data associated with a temporary or periodic usage of a vehicle by a driver. In aspects, the driver may associate with an electronic device within the vehicle that may record or collect the vehicle operation data. After the vehicle operation has concluded, the vehicle operation data may be analyzed to assess a performance of the driver during operation of the vehicle, whereby the performance may be influenced by positive or negative driving events. Based on the performance of the driver, a profile or account of the user may be processed accordingly such that the user may be incentivized to modify certain driving behaviors.

A mobile device may include at least one sensor that detects a characteristic of the mobile device selected from distance traveled, location, time, and g-force dynamics; a processor; and a tangible non-transitory computer readable storage medium containing instructions that, when executed on by the processor, are programmed to automatically detect that a wireless connection has been established between the mobile device and a vehicle, and in response to detecting the wireless connection between the mobile device and the vehicle, automatically start collecting vehicle operation data via the at least one sensor. Client side and server side methods for combining data originating from an On Board Diagnostics (OBD) cap with data originating from a client computing device are presented. The method includes receiving, from a client computing device via a computer network, a plurality of OBD cap data originating from an OBD cap and receiving, from the client computing device via the computer network, a plurality of client computing device data originating from the client computing device. The method also includes selecting, at a processor, a first data parameter from the plurality of OBD cap data and selecting, at the processor, a second data parameter from the plurality of client computing device data. The method further includes analyzing, at the processor, the first data parameter and the second data parameter and flagging, at the processor, an insurance account associated with the OBD device as a result of the analysis.

Split sensing method

Methods, systems, apparatus, and non-transitory media are described for verifying a vehicle's odometer mileage that is associated with an insurance policy. The described techniques include sending a notification to a mobile computing device requesting an update of the odometer mileage. The notification may be generated in response to the current date being within a threshold number of days prior to the insurance policy's expiration date. In response to the notification, a user may capture an image of the odometer with the mobile computing device, which may also include data indicative of the status of the mobile computing device. One or more optical character recognition (OCR) processes may be applied to the captured image to determine various odometer mileages. Aspects include verifying the odometer mileage when different OCR processes produce the same odometer mileage result and using the status of the mobile computing device to flag potentially fraudulent images.
