A contact insulator for use with high speed cable with differential pairs of contacts. A contact receiving portion has contact receiving slots which open from a first side of the contact insulator. A conductor receiving portion has conductor receiving slots which open from a second side of the contact insulator. A transition portion is positioned between the contact receiving portion and the conductor receiving portion. The transition portion has a contact receiving opening which extends through the contact insulator. The contact receiving opening is dimensioned to allow the contacts to be inserted therethrough. The contact insulator is rotated about the contacts and signal conductors of the high speed cable to position the contacts in the contact receiving slots through the first side of the contact insulator and position the signal conductor in the conductor receiving slots through the second side of the contact insulator.

Contact insulators for use with differential pairs of contacts and method of termination

An assembly for terminating a high speed cable. The assembly includes a shell housing and preassembled crosstalk shield. The shell housing has a mating end and a conductor receiving end, One or more shield receiving recesses extend from the conductor receiving end toward the mating end. The preassembled crosstalk shield has mounting projections which are positioned in the one or more shield receiving recesses. The mounting projections and the one or more shield receiving recesses provide an interference engagement to provide a secure mechanical and electrical connection between the shell housing and the preassembled crosstalk shield.

An assembly for terminating a high speed cable. The assembly includes a shell housing having a mating end and a conductor receiving end. A mating portion extends from the mating end. The mating portion has a contact receiving opening with an inside wall which extends circumferentially around the opening. A crosstalk shield is provided in the shell housing. Contacts are positioned in the contact receiving opening of the housing. The contacts terminate high speed conductors of the high speed cable. A nonconductive component is provided on the inside wall in the mating portion of the shell housing. The nonconductive component electrically and physically isolates the contacts from the shell housing.

An assembly for terminating a high speed cable with an EMI braided shield, The assembly a shell housing, a crosstalk shield and a constant force spring. The shell housing has a mating end and a conductor receiving end. A recessed portion is provided proximate the conductor receiving end, the recessed portion has an outer diameter. The crosstalk shield is provided in the shell housing. The constant force spring is positioned in the recessed portion of the shell housing. The constant force spring has an opening with an inner diameter which is less than the outer diameter of the recessed portion. The constant force spring is circumferentially wrapped about the EMI braided shield to mechanically and electrically secure the EMI braided shield to the recessed portion of the shell housing.

High speed cable braid termination using a coil spring

A connector for providing an electrical connection between at least one terminating mating terminal to a substrate. The connector includes a housing having at least one terminal receiving cavity. A receptacle terminal is positioned in the at least one terminal receiving cavity. The receptacle terminal has a latching projection which cooperates with the at least one mating terminal to retain the at least one mating terminal in electrical engagement with the receptacle terminal when the at least one mating terminal is fully inserted in the at least one terminal receiving cavity. A release mechanism is provided in the housing in line with the latching projection of the receptacle terminal, the release mechanism is configured to cooperate with the receptacle terminal to depress the latching projection when the at least one mating terminal is to be removed from the at least one terminal receiving cavity.

Positive lock sealed terminal connector

A cable connector includes an outer shell having a bore extending between a mating end and a cable end. The outer shell has latch pockets. The cable connector includes a shield received in the outer shell that divides the bore into chambers. The cable connector includes contact holders received in corresponding chambers. Each contact holder includes at least one contact channel and a deflectable latch having a latching head at a distal end of the latch configured to be received in the corresponding latch pocket of the outer shell to axially secure the contact holder in the outer shell. The latch has an interference bump at an inner end of the latch configured to engage the shield to press the latching head of the latch outward. The cable connector includes contacts received in corresponding contact channels of the corresponding contact holders.

A terminal post assembly for connecting at least one electrical terminal to a substrate. The terminal post assembly includes a terminal post which has a substrate mounting portion, a terminal receiving portion and a cap receiving portion. The substrate mounting portion has a base and a securing portion which is dimensioned to extend through a mounting opening of the substrate. The terminal receiving portion is configured to receive the at least one electrical terminal thereon and make an electrical connection to the at least one electrical terminal. The cap receiving portion has a cap positioned thereon. the cap cooperates with the at least one electrical terminal to retain the at least one electrical terminal in position on the terminal receiving portion to maintain the electrical connection between the at least one electrical terminal and the terminal receiving portion of the terminal post of the terminal post assembly.

A cable connector includes a cable having wire pairs and contacts in contact pairs. The contacts of the contact pairs may be simultaneously crimped to the corresponding wires by a crimp tool. Pair holders hold the contact pairs with an overmolded body molded around supporting bases of the contacts of the contact pair to fix relative positions of the contacts. The cable connector includes a pair shield having shield elements forming shield pockets receiving wire pairs, contact pairs, and pair holders. The cable connector includes a retainer having a retainer cavity that receives the wire pairs and the pair shield. The retainer includes a contact support to support the pair holders and the contact pairs. The cable connector includes an outer shell having an outer shell cavity that receives the retainer and provides electrical shielding for the contact pairs.

An RF module includes a housing including connector cavities and having a rear wall with lands adjacent openings. The RF module includes RF connectors received in the connector cavities each having a conductive shell and a dielectric body positioning a center contact in the shell. The RF connector has a spring surrounding the shell between front and rear flanges and a rear retainer having a front rim. The RF connector is received in the opening such that the front rim engages the rear wall to retain the RF connector in the corresponding opening. The RF connector is spring loaded in the connector cavity to allow the RF connector to float in the connector cavity.

An electrical connector with an insert assembly used to retain contact in an electrical connector. The insert assembly includes a rear insert and a front insert. The rear insert has a rear insert front surface, a rear insert rear surface and a rear insert outer surface. The rear insert outer surface extends between the rear insert front surface and the rear insert rear surface. Rear insert contact-receiving openings extend from the rear insert front surface to the rear insert rear surface. Latches are provided in the rear insert outer surface and are provided in alignment with respective rear insert contact-receiving openings. The latches are integrally formed in the rear insert outer surface. The latches are positioned proximate to the rear insert contact-receiving openings thereby allowing the latches to deform into the rear insert contact-receiving openings.

A spring for use in an RF contact for a plug-in module including a hollow unitary cylindrical body having a longitudinal axis and a spring portion positioned between opposed first and second ends. The spring includes a first retainer near the first end, the first retainer adapted to be captured between first and second socket body portions of an RF contact, the first socket body portion, at least a segment of the second socket body portion, and the body adapted to be disposed within a receptacle module. The spring includes a second retainer near the second end, the second retainer adapted to be captured by a corresponding feature of the receptacle module. In response to the body being mounted in the receptacle module to floatingly secure the first socket body portion and the at least a segment of the second socket body portion therein, the spring portion is in tension.

Spring for use in an RF contact for a plug-in module

A terminal assembly includes a terminal having a wire barrel and a mating segment configured to be mated to a mating component. The terminal assembly includes a shuttle assembly configured to be coupled to an end of a wire. The shuttle assembly includes a connecting insert defining a wire chamber configured to receive an exposed conductor of the wire. The connecting insert has a retention tab extending into the wire chamber. The retention tab is configured to interfere with and retain the wire in the wire chamber. The connecting insert is received in the wire barrel of the terminal and the connecting insert is configured to be crimped between the wire barrel of the terminal and the exposed conductor of the wire when the wire barrel is crimped around the connecting insert and the wire.

An electrical assembly includes a backshell having a coupling nut defining a cavity and a cable follower received in the cavity and extending rearward from the coupling nut. The cable follower has a plurality of rearward extending spring fingers extending to distal ends and being tapered inward to the distal ends to define a generally conical shaped cable channel configured to receive a cable. The spring fingers are deflectable and are spring biased against the cable in different radial directions to provide a clamping force against the cable and to substantially center the cable in the cable channel. The electrical assembly includes a retention feature coupled between the cable follower and the coupling nut allowing the coupling nut to be rotatably coupled to the cable follower such that the coupling nut is rotatable relative to the cable.

A connector system includes a cartridge having a cavity configured to hold one or more connector modules therein. The cartridge has a port opening to the cavity. The cartridge receiving the one or more connector modules through the port. The connector system includes a release mechanism housed in the cavity. The release mechanism configured to eject the one or more connector modules when actuated. The connector system includes a release button exposed beyond the cartridge and operably coupled to the release mechanism. The release button being pressed to an actuated position to activate the release mechanism. The release button is configured to be in a locked position to avoid inadvertent activation thereof.

A connector system includes a cavity configured to hold a connector module. The cartridge has a port opening to the cavity. The cartridge removably receives the connector module through the port. The connector system also includes an ejector mechanism. The ejector mechanism has a slider latch movable in a longitudinal direction relative to the cartridge. The slider latch has a profiled groove configured to cam therein. The slider latch has a linear gear. The ejector mechanism includes a rotatable handle having a circular gear configured to engage the linear gear to cause the slider latch to move as the rotatable handle is rotated between a closed position and an open position. The profiled groove engages the cam to secure the connector module to the connector assembly when the rotatable handle is in the closed position and unlock the connector module when in the open position.
