Touch and hold connector strip for an electronic token

An access control system, has at least one door to a secured area, each door having a strike plate, a host computer, at least one door control module coupled to the host computer, one door control module for every door; and at least one door reader coupled to the at least one door reader coupled to the door control module to activate the strike plate to release the door. The access control system further has at least one electro-mechanical key to independently actuate a lock that corresponds to the door(s). A master keying device to rekey the lock that corresponds to door(s). The host system records information selected from the group consisting of time of entry, place of entry, identification of entered party, and/or any combination thereof. In addition, a door knob and mechanical locking mechanism selectively latches and unlatches the locking mechanism and can be actuated with a mechanical key; and circuitry to actuate the locking mechanism to selectively latch so that the door can open, the circuitry actuated by an electrical signal transmitted by an electrical key, the electrical signal communicated by an electrical contact extending through the mechanical locking mechanism. The circuitry is powered by a battery, which can be removed without disturbing or actuating unlocking mechanism. The contact is an insulated electrical wire that extends through the locking mechanism to the circuitry. All of the circuitry discussed can be integrated onto a single, monolithic piece of silicon in a multi-chip or single-chip format. A master rekeying device has input/output circuitry to receive and transmit electrical signals, circuitry coupled to the input/output circuitry to record a list of security passwords in order to check passwords against the list and a memory to store data; and the input/output circuitry also receives and transmits electrical signals to a host computer.

Electrical/mechanical access control systems and methods

This invention relates to a small portable microprocessor based circuit (electronic module) that contains information about the user of the circuit that is known or inherently known by the user. The circuit is small enough to fit inside a thickened U.S. nickel and enables a user to perform secure transactions such as money transfers, information transfers, access control, etc. The electronic module is designed to be extremely secure both physically and electronically. Furthermore, the electronic module is useless to a person other than the designated user.

Coin-shaped one-wire communication modules with a flange for mounting convenience may be attached to contact extensions on items such as work totes for ease of communication. A host computer can keep track and locate multiple items which have mounted communication modules with use of a single data line and a single ground line for all of the modules.

Portable data carrier mounting system

A receptacle apparatus for a compact electronic module for effectuating data communication between the module and an interface circuit. The receptacle apparatus includes a cover arrangement and a combined locking and communication effecting structure. The receptacle apparatus is also designed in various embodiments to be installed on a removeable cover of a system so as not to hamper with removal of that cover.

A retrofit door knob assembly is adapted to fit within an aperture in a door in place of a conventional mechanical lock assembly. The retrofit door knob assembly is similar in appearance to a conventional door handle assembly, but includes a motor coupled to a latch, and suitable electrical and mechanical key inserts for receiving separate electrical and mechanical keys. Either a mechanical or electrical key can operate the latch. The electrical key insert includes a data probe within the handle for receiving the electrical key and the electrical key is provided with a means for gripping to allow a user to turn the handle with the key after the latch is unlocked by the motor.

Electrical/mechanical access control systems

A module houses electronic circuitry that comprises a first electrically conductive surface area and a second electrically conductive surface. The first and second electrically conductive surfaces combine to form a substantially token-shaped body. The body has a groove positioned around its perimeter. A probe that has a first end and a second end. A conductive, approximately pointed tip that extends from the first end of the probe and a conductive sleeve extends outward from pointed tip from a location proximate to said first end to a second distance. A first electrical connection contacts the tip and extends from the first end through the probe out the second end. A second electrical connection contacts the sleeve and extends from the first end through the probe out from the second end. A housing that holds an electronic module. The electronic module has a first surface and a second surface. The housing comprises a first end and a second end; and a hole positioned in the first end that allows an electronic module to be inserted therethrough. An electronic module connector that is shaped to receive an electronic module comprises a first conductive surface positioned on the perimeter of the electronic module connector, the first surface raised, a second conductive surface that extends horizontally at an angle to the first surface. A bracelet for housing an electronic module that has a first conductive surface and a second conductive surface and comprises a housing to hold an electronic module so that the first and second conductive surfaces can be contacted from outside and a band that is mechanically coupled to the housing.

A fastener and corresponding communication system comprises a first fastener having a first end and a second fastener having a second end. The first fastener has an integrated circuit positioned to be electrically coupled to a first communication interface on the first end of the fastener. The second end also has a second communication interface, the first communication interface and the second communication interface electrically coupled together when the first fastener and the second fastener are fastened together. The first fastener preferably has a hollow cavity therethrough and the integrated circuit is positioned inside the first fastener. At least one electrical signal line, preferably only one, exists through the hollow cavity in communication with the integrated circuit. The method comprises coupling a first fastener and a second fastener together and receiving and transmitting information via a first signal line and a second signal line extending through the first fastener and the second fastener to an integrated circuit positioned in the first fastener.
