A fastener for releasably securing first and second panels together includes a pin for being secured in an opening of a first panel, and a grommet for being secured in an opening of the second panel and for releasably receiving a shank of the pin to thereby releasably secure the first and second panels together. The pin includes a shank having a plurality of spaced apart circumferential grooves thereon, and a pair of spaced apart flanges connected to an end of the shank for securing the pin in the opening of the first panel. The grommet includes a tubular body defining a passageway for receiving the shank and has at least one longitudinal slot opening outwardly to an end thereof to define a radially pliant portion of the tubular body. A flange may be connected to the tubular body adjacent an end thereof opposite the longitudinal slot and cooperates with a plurality of tabs connected to the tubular body to secure the grommet within the opening of the second panel. At least one inwardly extending projection is provided on an interior surface of the radially pliant portion of the tubular body for engaging one of the grooves of the shank for releasably securing the pin and grommet together.

A two stage rivet made up of a pin which can be pushed into a grommet. The pin has an enlarged central portion in which an annular groove is defined and recesses on either side of this enlarged portion. The recesses have a stepped configuration and the latches on the grommet have matched stepped surfaces.

A retainer which will secure a wire bundle to a panel like the retainer is hinged U shaped portions which can be releasably closed to clamp the bundle between deflectable pair of spreadable wings.

A one-piece resilient fastener or molding clip for retaining trim, molding or applique strips, parts, panels and other decorative items in bridging position over a gap between two spaced members is disclosed. Such a clip, which is particularly useful for attaching objects such as trim strips in automobile interiors, is attached through a suitably-shaped aperture in a base or support, particularly a plastic base panel, disposed in the gap, and has a pair of flexing wings or legs extending upwardly and outwardly from the end of the clip opposite the end to which the decorative item being retained is attached. These flexing wings or legs, designed to prevent them from passing completely through the base or support, permit variation take up between the decorative item being retained and the base or support as well as repeated assemblies and disassemblies of the clip to the base or support, with minimum insertion force and adequate removal effort, without destroying the clip or damaging the base or support.

Molding clip

A generally 'U' or 'V' shaped clip type fastener adapted to secure a projection on one part in an opening or aperture in another part. The fastener has a lead portion for insertion into the opening with locking tabs for attachment to the projection and a trailing locking portion which passes over the projection and has oppositely disposed locking shoulder abutting the sides of the opening to lock the projection into the opening. In this arrangement, the clip can be inserted onto the projection with the locking tabs retaining the clip on the projection. The part with the projection can then be secured to the part with the opening by merely inserting the clip into the opening and forcing the parts together to 'snap fit' the clip into the opening.

Clip for securing a panel to a support

A one piece clip is provided for retaining an elongated molding trim strip in bridging relation with a gap formed between two spaced members. The clip has a pair of resilient arms received in the inturned flange at one end of the molding and a resilient tongue received in the inturned flange at the opposite edge of the molding. A resilient leg of the clip is received in a slotted opening provided in a panel recessed in the gap and includes angled portions which provide for ease of assembly and removal of the clip from a position bridging the spaced members.
