Provided herein are olefinic feedstocks derived from conjugated hydrocarbon terpenes (e.g., C-Cterpenes), methods for making the same, and methods for their use.

Olefins and methods for making the same

Processes and systems for stabilization and subsequent hydrogenation of an immiscible olefin are described. In certain embodiments, the hydrogenation is conducted in a fixed bed reactor in presence of a hydrogenation catalyst.

Stabilization and hydrogenation methods for microbial-derived olefins

Methods and compositions for stabilization and subsequent hydrogenation of a microbial-derived immiscible olefin are described. The methods comprise separating immiscible olefin from a mixture comprising an aqueous solution, microbial cells and immiscible olefin thereby forming a crude olefin composition; purifying the crude olefin composition thereby forming a purified olefin composition; and adding a phenolic antioxidant to the purified olefin composition wherein the phenolic antioxidant is a phenol derivative containing an unfused phenyl ring with one or more hydroxyl substituents. The methods further comprise reacting the purified olefin composition with hydrogen in the presence of a hydrogen catalyst such that hydrogen saturates at least one double bond in the olefin. Hydrogenated compositions produced by the methods are further provided.

Provided herein are isoparaffins derived from hydrocarbon terpenes such as myrcene, ocimene and farnesene, and methods for making the same. In certain variations, the isoparaffins have utility as lubricant base stocks.

Base oils and methods for making the same

Methods and compositions for stabilization and subsequent hydrogenation of a microbial-derived immiscible olefin are described. The methods comprise providing a feed stream to the inlet of a reactor, wherein the feed stream comprises a microbial-derived immiscible olefin composition stabilized with a phenolic antioxidant which is a phenol derivative containing an unfused phenyl ring with one or more hydroxyl substituents. The methods further comprise contacting the feed stream with hydrogen in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst at a temperature of about 20&#xb0; C. or greater, and generating a product stream comprising a hydrogenated immiscible olefin composition. The microbial-derived immiscible olefin composition stabilized with the phenolic antioxidant remains stable over time, and its hydrogenation reaction time and process are improved.

Processes and systems for stabilization and subsequent hydrogenation of an immiscible olefin are described. Methods of stabilizing a microbial-derived olefin composition are also described.

Stabilization methods for microbial-derived olefins

Catalysts for dewaxing of hydrocarbon feeds, particularly feeds with elevated sulfur and nitrogen levels, are provided. The dewaxing catalysts include a zeolite with a low silica to alumina ratio combined with a low surface binder, or alternatively the formulated catalyst has a high ratio of zeolite surface area to external surface area.

Catalysts for dewaxing of hydrocarbon feeds, particularly feeds with elevated sulfur and nitrogen levels, are provided. The dewaxing catalysts include at least two zeolites, including a zeolite with a low silica to alumina ratio. The catalysts may be combined with a low surface binder, or alternatively the catalysts as formulated may have a high ratio of zeolite surface area to external surface area.
