A fuel fired burner defines an axially extending flow path. An airless fuel nozzle sprays fuel droplets within the fuel fired burner in a direction generally along the axially extending flow path. An exhaust gas inlet directs exhaust gases from a vehicle exhaust system toward the airless nozzle in a direction that is transverse to the axially extending flow path. The exhaust gas mixes with the fuel droplets resulting in an exhaust gas/fuel mixture.

Fuel fired burner for vehicle exhaust component

A vehicle exhaust gas treatment apparatus includes a DPF with SCR coating. An inlet piping fluidly communicates with the DPF and is positioned generally parallel to the DPF. An outlet pipe fluidly communicates with the DPF and is positioned generally parallel to the DPF. The apparatus is arranged such that exhaust gas flows through the inlet pipe in a first direction from a first inlet pipe end to a second inlet pipe end. The exhaust gas flows through the DPF in a second direction, generally parallel to and opposite to the first direction. The gas flows through the outlet pipe generally in the first direction from a first outlet pipe end to a second outlet pipe end.

Vehicle exhaust gas treatment apparatus

A catalyst is positioned downstream of a thermal enhancer, such as a fuel-fired burner for example. A doser injects hydrocarbons into the thermal enhancer to maintain exhaust gas temperatures such that the catalyst is in an active condition and to raise exhaust gas temperatures to a level such that a diesel particulate filter can be regenerated.

A method of operating an emission abatement assembly includes separating the exhaust gas flow entering through the gas inlet port of the fuel-fired burner into a combustion flow which is advanced through the combustion chamber, and a bypass flow which bypasses the combustion chamber. A method of operating an emission abatement system includes advancing a liquid agent to an atomizing nozzle and advancing pressurized air to the atomizing nozzle. The method further includes impinging the pressurized air on the liquid agent at a tip of the atomizing nozzle to shear liquid agent particles from the liquid agent. The method further includes advancing the liquid agent particles through the atomizing nozzle to an emission abatement device. An emission abatement system and atomizer apparatus are also disclosed herein.
