A hair treatment composition comprising: i) a cleansing phase comprising a surfactant, in which at least 50 wt % of the total surfactant comprises an ethoxylated alkyl sulphate anionic surfactant; ii) an oil-in-water emulsion comprising a silicone; iii) a piroctone compound at a level of 0.15 to 1.5 wt % of the composition; and iv) a cationic polymer in which the cationic polymer comprises a dimethyl diallyl ammonium moiety, at a level of 0.1 to 1.0 wt % of the composition; wherein the anti-dandruff agent component in the composition is less than 50 wt % in solid form.

Hair treatment composition

Provided is a quick and accurate way of assessing harshness of a surfactant towards a protein, which can be easily carried out under non-laboratory conditions and which facilitates recommendations for making suitable products. Particularly, provided are methods of measuring the harshness of a surfactant, which includes (a) providing an aqueous solution of surfactant and taking a first colour measurement; (b) adding a solid protein-dye complex to the aqueous solution of surfactant; (c) taking a second colour measurement and measuring the change in colour between the first colour measurement and the second colour measurement; and (d) matching the change in colour with a reference scale. The solid protein-dye complex can be prepared by dissolving a non-denatured corn protein and a protein binding dye in aqueous alcohol, and removing the aqueous alcohol.

Method of measuring harshness of a surfactant

An acidic aqueous shampoo composition, which comprises: (I) a cleansing surfactant selected from the group consisting of anionic surfactant, zwitterionic or amphoteric surfactant and nonionic surfactant; (II) an emulsified silicone, (III) an anti-settling, thickening polymer, wherein the anti-settling, thickening polymer, comprises: (a) 40 to 74.5 wt % of structural units of Calkyl acrylate; (b) 20 to 50 wt % of structural units of methacrylic acid; (c) 0.3 to &#x3c;5 wt % of structural units of 2-acrylamido-2-methyl-propane sulfonic acid (AMPS); (d) 5 to 25 wt % of structural units of a specialized associated monomer having the following structure: wherein Ris a linear saturated Calkyl group; wherein Ris a hydrogen or a methyl group (preferably, wherein Ris a methyl group); and wherein n is an average of 20 to 28; with the proviso that the structural units of the specialized associated monomer (d) are derived from one of (i) a single specialized associated monomer (preferably, a single specialized associated monomer wherein Ris selected from the group consisting of a linear saturated Calkyl group, a linear saturated Calkyl group and a linear saturated Calkyl group; more preferably, a single specialized associated monomer wherein Ris selected from the group consisting of a linear saturated Calkyl group and a linear saturated Calkyl group); (ii) two specialized associated monomers, wherein Ris, respectively, a linear saturated Cand a linear saturated Calkyl group; or (iii) two specialized associated monomers, wherein Ris, respectively, a linear saturated Calkyl group and a linear saturated Calkyl group; (f) 0 to 2 wt % of structural units of multi-ethylenically unsaturated crosslinking monomer or chain transfer agent; and wherein the sum of the weight percentages of structural units (a)-(f) is equal to 100 wt % of the anti-settling, thickening polymer; and method of treating hair or scalp with such a composition. 

Shampoo composition and method of use

An aqueous anti-dandruff shampoo composition which comprises: (I) a cleansing surfactant selected from the group consisting of anionic surfactant, zwitterionic or amphoteric surfactant and nonionic surfactant; (II) suspended particles of an anti-dandruff agent, (III) an anti-settling, thickening polymer, wherein the anti-settling, thickening polymer, comprises: (a) 40 to 74.5 wt % of structural units of Calkyl acrylate; (b) 20 to 50 wt % of structural units of methacrylic acid; (c) 0.2 to &#x3c;5 wt % of structural units of 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropane sulfonic acid (AMPS); (d) 5 to 25 wt % of structural units of a specialized associated monomer having the following structure wherein Ris a linear saturated Calkyl group; wherein Ris a hydrogen or a methyl group (preferably, wherein Ris a methyl group); and wherein n is an average of 20 to 28; with the proviso that the structural units of the specialized associated monomer (d) are derived from one of (i) a single specialized associated monomer (preferably, a single specialized associated monomer wherein Ris selected from the group consisting of a linear saturated Calkyl group, a linear saturated Calkyl group and a linear saturated Calkyl group; more preferably, a single specialized associated monomer wherein R 1 is selected from the group consisting of a linear saturated C12 alkyl group and a linear saturated C18 alkyl group); (ii) two specialized associated monomers, wherein Ris, respectively, a linear saturated Cand a linear saturated Calkyl group; or (iii) two specialized associated monomers, wherein Ris, respectively, a linear saturated Calkyl group and a linear saturated Calkyl group; (e) 0 to 1 wt % of structural units of acrylic acid; and (f) 0 to 2 wt % of structural units of multi-ethylenically unsaturated crosslinking monomer or chain transfer agent; and wherein the sum of the weight percentages of structural units (a)-(f) is equal to 100 wt % of the anti-settling, thickening polymer; and the use of such a composition in a method of treating hair or scalp. 

Antidandruff composition and method of use

The invention provides an aqueous shampoo composition comprising: (i) one or more anionic cleansing surfactants; (ii) preferably, discrete, dispersed droplets of a water-insoluble conditioning agent with a mean droplet diameter (D) of 4 micrometers or less; (iii) one or more cationic polymers (A) selected from cationically modified acrylamide polymers having a cationic charge density at pH7 of less than 1.0 meq per gram, cationically modified celluloses and mixtures thereof, and (iv) one or more cationic polymers (B) selected from cationically modified acrylamide polymers having a cationic charge density at pH7 of greater than 1.0 meq per gram, cationically modified polygalactomannans, and mixtures thereof, wherein the composition comprises a cationic polymer other than a cationically modified acrylamide polymer.

Shampoo compositions containing a combination of cationic polymers

Hair washing compositions are disclosed which comprise cleansing surfactant, water, first and second cationic polymers having at pH7 a charge density from 0.2 to 1 meq/gm and from 1.3 to 3 meq/gm respectively, and droplets of a water-insoluble conditioning oil of diameter 4 micrometres or less. The compositions provide cleansing with conditioning and low friction and ease of combing for wet and dry hair.

Compositions for washing and conditioning hair

A hair treatment composition containing a silicone component comprising droplets of silicone blend, the silicone blend comprising (i) from 50 to 95% by weight of the silicone component of a first silicone having a viscosity of at least 100,000 mm2/sec at 25&deg; C., and (ii) from 5 to 50% by weight of the silicone component of a second silicone which is functionalised.
