A method for reducing idle mode power consumption is disclosed. An idle mode is entered. A neighboring base station is selected. If the selected neighboring base station is assigned a high-frequency monitoring mode, a signal strength of the neighboring base station is measured. A low-frequency monitoring mode is assigned to the selected neighboring base station if the signal strength of the selected neighboring base station has been below a power threshold for longer than a time threshold. Other aspects, embodiments, and features are also claimed and described.

Reducing idle mode power consumption for monitoring neighboring base stations

To reduce the effectiveness of eavesdropping attacks, a filler such as one utilized in a data frame for link-layer LAPDm signaling may be dynamically selected to utilize a first bit pattern (first filler) generated utilizing a first algorithm when the transmissions are unencrypted, and to utilize a second bit pattern (second filler) generated utilizing a second algorithm different from the first algorithm when the transmissions are encrypted.

Dynamic selection among algorithms for generating fillers for security of data communications

Apparatus and methods are disclosed to provide for a multi-SIM wireless user equipment configured for discontinuous reception (DRX) utilizing two or more subscriptions, which may be in different radio access technologies. The user equipment is configured to originate a call using one subscription, to the same user equipment over another subscription. During the duration of a blanking window, statistics corresponding to repetitions of incoming page messages are recorded and analyzed to determine repetition behavior by the network of page messages. In this way, monitoring of the paging channel can be done during fewer than all DRX cycles, combating possible collisions between DRX cycles on different radio access technologies, and enabling reduced power consumption. Apparatus and method for employing a page cycle learning mode

Signals of different cells in a cellular wireless communications system are observed during associated intervals to predict a signal behavior in future. A target cell is selected by observing over time signal characteristics of potential target cells. Thereafter a target cell is selected by using the observed characteristics to predict which potential target cell will in future satisfy certain criteria.

Methods, devices and systems relating to reselecting cells in a cellular wireless communications system

Cell reselection comprises monitoring a first indicator indicative of a signaling level of the serving cell, and monitoring second indicators, each indicative of a signaling level of one of plural potential target cells. A timer associated with a potential target cell is initiated when the respective second indicator indicates that the signaling level of the potential target cell is better than the signaling level of the serving cell. Each timer has an associated expiry, and, if at least one timer has been initiated by the expiry of another initiated timer, then, after delaying for an additional period after at least the first timer has expired, a target cell is selected from the potential target cells. The target cell is selected that has a second indicator which indicates that the signaling level of the respective target cell is better than the signaling level of the serving cell.
