A system provides limited controller access to a mesh network of media rendering devices in a primary communication network via an access point providing network connectivity to a local area network (LAN). A first media rendering device in communication with the LAN includes a secondary network transceiver providing a secondary network distinct from the LAN. A second media rendering device is in communication with the first media rendering device via the secondary network. A controller is configured to communicate with the first media rendering device via the LAN and/or the secondary network. The first media rendering device is configured to convey a command from the controller to the second media rendering device via the secondary network.

Method and system for providing limited controller access to a mesh network of media rendering devices

A media rendering system includes a media rendering device and a controller device in communication via a network. The controller has a touch screen, presenting a portrait display mode when oriented in a first position, and a landscape display mode when oriented in a second position. The portrait mode displays either a first full screen presenting a first menu, or a second full screen presenting a second menu. The landscape mode displays a landscape full screen with two side-by-side tiles including a first tile presenting the first menu and a second tile presenting the second menu. Landscape mode provides drag-and-drop functionality for menu objects among the first and second, generating configuration commands to the media rendering device.

A method for controlling a plurality of media rendering devices in a data network with a controller device in communication with the network is disclosed. A network enabled subwoofer is added to the data network such that the subwoofer is visible on the network to a controller. The controller user interface displays a subwoofer graphical object and a group graphical object representing a group of one or more rendering devices. A user selects the group graphical object via the controller user interface, and the subwoofer is joined with the selected group. An audio channel associated with the group is assigned to the subwoofer. The controller user interface hides the subwoofer graphical object.

A first network enabled device is in a wireless local area network (WLAN). The first network enabled device determines whether a second network enabled device is present in the WLAN. The first network enabled device executes a rule having a condition based on whether the second network enabled device is present in the WLAN and a resulting action to be performed by the first network enabled device. A system and method for configuring a media rendering device of a media rendering system in a WLAN is disclosed. A second device is activated, and detected by a first device. The first and second devices establish a communication channel. The first device accesses biometric user data of a first user of the media rendering system, and records an audio voice phrase of a user of the second device. The system analyzes the audio voice phrase of the user of the second device to compare the audio voice phrase of the user of the second device to the biometric user data of the first user of the media rendering system. The system authenticates the audio voice phrase with respect to the biometric user data and configures the second device to render media according to a first user profile of the first user of the media rendering system.

A method is disclosed for generating a media playlist by a media rendering device having a proximity detector. The proximity detector detects a first identification device, receives a first identification associated with the first identification device, and selects a first preference list associated with the first identification. The proximity detector detects a second identification device, receives a second identification associated with the second identification device, and selects a second preference list associated with the second identification. The media player generates a combined preference list based upon the first preference list and the second preference list and generates a playlist of songs based on the combined preference list.

System and method for controlling a rendering device based upon detected user proximity

This disclosure presents a connector assembly for providing a waterproof connection to a case for an electronic device. The connector assembly includes a connector body, an electrical cable, and an electrical conductor. The electrical conductor is electrically connected to the electrical cable and electrically engages the installed electronic device to convey at least one of data and power between the installed electronic device and the electrical cable. The connector assembly also includes an outer sleeve configured to freely rotate around the connector body and further configured to removably connect the connector assembly to the case. The outer sleeve includes a securing region to removably secure the connector assembly to the case, an inner gasket to seal an inner sealing interface of the outer sleeve with the connector body, and an outer gasket positioned to seal an outer sealing interface of the outer sleeve with the case.

A media rendering device is in communication with the proximity detecting device. The media rendering device is configured to receive one or more user identities from the proximity detecting device and render media according to an operating manner determined at least in part by the received one or more user identities.

A media rendering system includes a controller device and a media rendering device in communication via a communication network. The media rendering device is configured to render a media recording. The controller device includes a sensor configured to detect and receive an audio portion of the rendered media recording. The controller device is configured to identify the rendered media recording, and to determine a location of the controller device within a proximity of the media rendering device.
