In one example implementation, a computing device displays a first application window and second application window adjacent to each other in a multi-application viewing area. The computing device detects a gesture in either an upper gesture detection area or a lower gesture detection area and controls either the first application window or second application window based on the gesture.

An example processor-implemented method for adjusting screen orientation of a display associated with a device with the present disclosure is identifying a request for a new profile, the new profile being created in the device, requesting a selection of a screen orientation for the new profile, adjusting the orientation of the display for the new profile based on the screen orientation selection, and manage applications on the device based on the screen orientation selection.

Examples relate to extending hardware support for sensors embedded in peripherals. In some examples, a driver is used to determine that a peripheral device includes a sensor in response to the peripheral device being attached to a mobile computing device, where the driver is preloaded in an operating system kernel of the mobile computing device. Next, a list of supported hardware features is updated to include a peripheral hardware feature that is provided by a sensor of the peripheral device, and the list of supported hardware features is sent to an application store server. At this stage, a list of available applications that are compatible with the list of supported hardware features is received from the application store server.

Mobile device support for sensors in peripherals

An example method for controlling the orientation of a display screen of a computing device is provided in accordance with an aspect of the present disclosure. The method includes identifying a request for a change of an orientation of a screen in a device from a first screen orientation to a second screen orientation. The request may be sent by a mobile application. The method further includes determining whether the device has an ability to rotate the screen to the second orientation, canceling the request for change of the orientation of the screen, and adjusting the resolution of the screen to emulate rotation of the screen to the second orientation while remaining in the first orientation.
