Photosensitive lithium zinc aluminosilicate glasses that can be selectively irradiated and cerammed to provide patterned regions of glass and lithium-based glass ceramic, and composite glass articles made from such glasses and glass ceramics are provided. The lithium zinc aluminosilicate glass can be negatively photosensitive or positively photosensitive to radiation having a wavelength in a range from about 248 nm to about 360 nm.

Photosensitive glasses and glass ceramics and composite glass materials made therefrom

A binary photonics lattice that includes a waveguide array having a plurality of single mode waveguides disposed in a substrate, the plurality of single mode waveguides including one or more first waveguides having a first V-number Vand one or more second waveguides having a second V-number V. The first V-number Vis smaller than the second V-number V. The one or more first and second waveguides are arranged in a linear distribution having first and second edge waveguide regions and a binary waveguide region positioned between the first and second edge waveguide regions. The binary waveguide region is a symmetrical binary representation of a decimal number of two or greater. Further, the binary waveguide region includes at least one first waveguide representing a digit 0 of the symmetrical binary representation and/or at least one second waveguide representing a digit 1 of the symmetrical binary representation.

Optical systems comprising binary photonics lattices

An article includes an optical transforming layer and a guide region positioned inside and adjacent to at least a portion of a perimeter of the optical transforming layer. The guide region comprises an inlet end positioned adjacent to a first surface of the optical transforming layer and an outlet end positioned adjacent a second surface of the optical transforming layer. The guide region propagates light from the inlet end to the outlet end such that the light is directed from the first surface to the second surface. The guide region includes a phase-separated glass comprising a continuous network phase and a discontinuous phase. A relative difference in index of refraction between the continuous network phase and the discontinuous phase is greater than or equal to 0.3%. The discontinuous phase comprises elongated shaped regions aligned along a common axis and having an aspect ratio greater than or equal to 10:1.

Optical transforming article

Embodiments of the disclosure relate to an antenna device. The antenna device includes a glass sheet having a first major surface and a second major surface opposite to the first major surface. The first major surface and the second major surface define a thickness of the glass sheet. The antenna device also includes at least one patch antenna. Each of the at least one patch antenna includes a first metallic layer that is located within the thickness of the glass sheet at or below the first major surface. Additionally, the antenna device includes a ground plane comprising a second metallic layer that is located within the thickness of the glass sheet at or below the second major surface.

Method of making a lensed connector with photosensitive glass

Glass articles with infrared reflectivity and methods for making the same are disclosed herein. In one embodiment, glass article having infrared reflectivity includes a first surface, a second surface and a body extending between the first and second surfaces. A plurality of discrete layers of metallic silver are formed in the body creating at least one optical cavity in the body. Each discrete layer may have a thickness T such that 100 nm&#x2264;T&#x2264;250 nm and may be spaced apart from adjacent layers of metallic silver by a spacing S&#x2264;500. The glass article reflects at least a portion of electromagnetic radiation incident on the glass article having a wavelength from 800 nm to 2500 nm and transmits at least a portion of electromagnetic radiation incident on the glass article having a wavelength from 390 nm to 750 nm.

Glass articles with infrared reflectivity and methods for making the same

Embodiments are directed to glass articles which are resistant to UV photodarkening, the glass articles having a thickness &#x2264;1.3 mm and comprise UV absorbers such as Ti, V, Mn, Fe, Cu, Ce, Ge, Mo, Cr, Co and Ni, and combinations thereof, or alternatively comprising ZnO or SnO.

Compressive and tensile stress at the interface of the lithium-based glass-ceramic and lithium zinc aluminosilicate glass may be used to frustrate crack propagation in such a composite glass/glass ceramic article. Methods of making composite glass articles comprising such lithium-based glass ceramics and lithium zinc aluminosilicate glasses are also provided.

The disclosure is directed to a chemically strengthened glass having antimicrobial properties and to a method of making such glass. In particular, the disclosure is directed to a chemically strengthened glass with antimicrobial properties and with a low surface energy coating on the glass that does not interfere with the antimicrobial properties of the glass. The antimicrobial has an Ag ion concentration on the surface in the range of greater than zero to 0.047 &#x3bc;g/cm. The glass has particular applications as antimicrobial shelving, table tops and other applications in hospitals, laboratories and other institutions handling biological substances, where color in the glass is not a consideration.

Coated, antimicrobial, chemically strengthened glass and method of making

An antenna unit including an antenna array having a plurality of antennas and a lens plate comprising a mask pattern. The antenna array defines a first plane, and the lens plate defines a second plane. The lens plate is spaced apart from the antenna array, and the second plane is parallel to the first plane. The mask pattern is configured to focus first waves incident on the lens plate through diffraction to a region of the antenna array. The first waves are incident on the lens plate at a first angle relative to an axis normal to the second plane. The mask pattern is configured to focus second waves incident on the lens plate through diffraction to the first region of the antenna array. The second waves are incident on the lens plate at a second angle relative to the axis that is different from the first angle.

Fresnel zone plate lens designs for microwave applications

Substantially alkali free glasses are disclosed which can be used to produce substrates for flat panel display devices. The glasses can have a loading of fluorine and ceria to achieve exemplary solarization and UV protection attributes when exposed to UV radiation. Methods for producing substantially alkali free glasses using a float or downdraw process (e.g., a fusion downdraw process) are also disclosed.

Solarization resistant rare earth doped glasses

Embodiments of a filter for electromagnetic radiation are disclosed herein. The filter includes a first glass-ceramic substrate having a first refractive index, a second glass-ceramic substrate having the first refractive index, and a first region disposed between the first glass-ceramic substrate and the second glass-ceramic substrate. The first region has a second refractive index that is less than the first refractive index. Further, the second glass-ceramic substrate is arranged substantially parallel to and spatially disposed from the first glass-ceramic substrate. The filter transmits at least 70% of electromagnetic radiation within a band of frequencies and reflects at least 80% of electromagnetic radiation outside the band of frequencies. The band of frequencies is located within the frequency range of 20 GHz to 100 GHz.

Glass-ceramic microwave filters

A Fresnel phase lens for a 5G antenna is described herein. The Fresnel phase lens includes a glass-ceramic material having a first major surface and a second major surface. The first major surface and the second major surface define a thickness therebetween, and the first major surface defines a plane. The glass-ceramic material includes a first plurality rings having first ring surfaces in the plane and a second plurality of rings having second ring surfaces at a first depth into the thickness and below the plane. The glass ceramic material is transparent to electromagnetic radiation having a frequency of from 20 GHz to 100 GHz.

Fresnel phase lenses for 5G applications

Multicolored glass-based articles and methods of manufacture are disclosed. The method includes forming a glass-based part and exposing a first region to radiation and a second region to radiation such that the first and second regions have different sized metallic nanoparticles, resulting in a multicolored glass article.
