A control system for controlling fuel delivery to an internal combustion engine (ICE) based on oil diluted by fuel in a crankcase of the ICE includes a fuel injector and a controller. The controller is configured to determine a modeled evaporation rate of unburned fuel in the crankcase; compare the modeled evaporation rate of unburned fuel to a threshold; and communicate a fuel delivery signal indicative of an injector fuel mass target to the fuel injector to compensate the fuel injected based on the modeled evaporation rate of the unburned fuel in the crankcase exceeding the threshold.

System and method for compensating fuel mass based on oil dilution

A control system for an exhaust system that receives a combusted air/fuel mixture as exhaust from the internal combustion engine includes a catalyst, an electric heating element and a controller. The electric heating element is disposed in the exhaust system upstream of the catalyst and is configured to heat up the exhaust before it enters the catalyst. The controller is configured to: estimate a temperature of the electric heating element at startup of the internal combustion engine; determine a time limit of operating the electric heating element at maximum power based on the estimated temperature of the electric heating element and an ambient temperature; and command the electric heating element to operate at the maximum power based on a determination that the time limit has not been reached.

System and method for controlling electrically heated catalyst

An axial cam shifting system configured to selectively open and close engine valves includes an axial cam shifting assembly and a controller. The axial cam shifting assembly includes a camshaft, a first cam assembly, an actuator, a carriage and a position sensor. The first cam assembly is received on the camshaft and has two distinct cam profiles. The actuator has a first pin and a second pin. The carriage is arranged on the camshaft and defines a track that selectively receives the first and second pins, wherein the axial shifting cam assembly is movable between a first, and a second position corresponding to alignment of the respective two distinct cam profiles. The position sensor communicates a signal indicative of a position of the carriage. The controller receives the signal and determines whether the carriage is in one of the first and second positions based on the signal.

A fuel delivery system for a vehicle having an engine configured to selectively operate between a port fuel injection (PFI) mode, a gasoline direct injection (GDI) mode, and a port and direct fuel injection (PDI) mode. The fuel delivery system includes a PFI system including plurality of PFI injectors configured to supply fuel to the engine during the PFI mode, and a GDI system including a plurality of GDI injectors configured to supply fuel to the engine during the GDI mode. A fuel system monitor is configured to monitor the fuel delivery system when operating in the PFI mode, and attribute any fuel delivery system malfunctions occurring during the PFI mode to the PFI system alone, and monitor the fuel delivery system when operating in the GDI mode, and attribute any fuel delivery system malfunctions occurring during the GDI mode to the GDI system alone.

A port and direct fuel injection (PDI) fuel delivery system for a vehicle having an engine configured to selectively operate between a port fuel injection (PFI) mode, a gasoline direct injection (GDI) mode, and a PDI mode includes a PFI system including plurality of PFI injectors, and a GDI system including a plurality of GDI injectors. The PFI and GDI systems are configured to provide various split-ratios of fuel mass injection to the engine based on a particular engine operating condition. A controller is programmed to identify a known first long term fuel trim (LTFT) for a first split-ratio, identify a known second LTFT for a second split-ratio, generate a linear equation based on the known first and second LTFTs, and determine an unknown third LTFT for a third split-ratio by utilizing the linear equation to facilitate reducing fueling errors and emissions.
