A disc for use in a disc screen is disclosed. The disc includes a longitudinal disc axis and a hub extending a length along the longitudinal disc axis. The hub further includes a hub surface and a helical ridge structure extending away from the hub surface and twisting about the longitudinal axis at least 360 degrees. A cross-section of the hub taken perpendicularly to the longitudinal disc axis is non-circular.

A novel ballistic separator for separating material is disclosed that includes a separator bed adapted to contact the material. The bed has a first agitator with a top surface, with the top surface comprising a conveyor connected to the first agitator. A crankshaft imparts an oscillating motion to the first agitator and conveyor, which move fixed together relative to the oscillating motion. The conveyor is constructed to move laterally across to the top surface.

Amplified ballistic separator for separating material

A self-cleaning apparatus for sorting a mixture of materials is disclosed that comprises a material sorter and a gantry positioning system elevated above the material sorter. The gantry positioning system includes a longitudinal travel rail with a longitudinal travel rail carriage, a traverse travel rail with a transverse travel rail carriage connected to the longitudinal travel rail carriage running perpendicular to the longitudinal travel rail, and a vertical travel rail connected to the vertical travel rail carriage running perpendicular to the traverse travel rail. A cutter and, optionally, a picker, are connected to the vertical travel rail. The gantry positioning system can move the cutter and picker various directions to dislodge and remove material that may have accumulated on the sorter. Instead of a gantry positioning system, the apparatus may have a multi-axis arm.

The separator includes a separator bed adapted to contact the material, with the bed further comprising an agitator and an amplified agitator. The amplified agitator has a total lateral displacement. The separator also includes a crankshaft kinematically linked to the agitator and the amplified agitator. The crankshaft has a total lateral displacement. The amplified agitator total lateral displacement is larger than the crankshaft total lateral displacement.

The longitudinal axis is coaxial with the center of the hub and the hub further includes a hub surface, a major axis defined by a first cross section taken perpendicular to the longitudinal axis and through the center of the hub at and a minor axis defined by a second cross section taken perpendicular to the longitudinal axis and through the center of the hub. The first cross section is longer than the second cross section, and the first cross section is substantially orthogonal to the second cross section. A helical ridge structure extends away from hub surface and twists at least 360 degrees about the longitudinal axis for the length.

A rotating suction chamber apparatus for sorting a mixture of materials comprises a cylindrical drum with its upper end is at a higher elevation than its lower end. An upper housing connected to the upper end has a material intake for receiving the mixture of materials for introduction to the upper end. The mixture of materials includes a light fraction and a heavy fraction, and the upper housing has an outlet for the light fraction. A suction hood connected to the light fraction outlet includes a light separator shaft with a substantially vertical portion, and an air blower is adapted to create an airflow from the lower end, to the upper end, through the light fraction outlet and through the suction hood. A rotator rotates the drum about its longitudinal axis so that the heavy fraction is moved through the drum and falls out of the lower end.

Rotating suction chamber apparatus

A rotary sorting apparatus comprises a large-diameter rotary drum for sorting a mixture of materials received through a first end of the drum and expelled through a second end. A plurality of slew rings are attached circumferentially to the outer surface of the drum for supporting and rotating the drum. Each slew ring comprises an inner race placed concentrically within an outer race, with bearings between them allowing the inner race to rotate freely within the outer race. The inner surface of the inner race is attached to the outer surface of the drum and rotates with the drum, while the outer surface of the outer race is fixed to the supporting structure. A rotator, such as a wheel, in contact with the outer surface of the drum causes the drum to rotate about its longitudinal axis.

Rotary sorting apparatus

An improved multi-disc assembly and method for releasable attachment to a shaft of a disc screen apparatus. A multi-disc hub includes multiple discs configured for use in a material separation screen of a disc screen apparatus, and has a through bore configured for direct engagement over the shaft of a material separation screen. The multi-disc hub is comprised of at least two parts that detach from each other, and at least one part comprises a portion of the through bore cross-sectional area that is less than or equal to half of the total through-bore cross-sectional area. A fastener is adapted to attach at least one hub part to the shaft, and the fastener provides a force that is greater than the force of gravity to temporarily retain the hub part onto the shaft when the shaft is rotated.

Device and method to attach disc to shaft

A disc for use in a disc screen is disclosed that creates an 'intended space'&#x2014;i.e., the designed space through which material is intended to pass&#x2014;that undulates in both directions in the plane defined by the screen's rotatable shafts. The disc design includes a major axis that is rotated along the length of the shaft, creating a helical ridge. The ridge is continuous and non-stepwise, thereby avoiding the 'pinch' of the prior art designs. And by having the helical ridge of adjacent discs on the same shaft with opposing rotations, the lateral movement of material may alternate along the length of the shaft&#x2014;further spreading the material throughout the width of the disc screen and increasing the screen's efficiency.
