A pilling-resistant cosmetic composition is in the form of an oil in water emulsion that includes a water phase and an oily phase, and includes at least one cosmetically acceptable polymeric thickener selected from the group consisting of crosspolymers, gums, taurate based polymers, carbomers, polyacrylates, and combinations thereof, at least one ethoxylated agent in liquid form at ambient temperature in a range from about 20° C. to about 28° C. and has an HLB from about 8.5 to about 16; and at least one oil. The pilling-resistant cosmetic composition resists pilling when applied by rubbing or smoothing on a keratinous substrate.

A hydroglycolic cosmetic composition includes at least one or a combination of skin actives comprising at least one of ascorbic acid, a cinnamic acid derivative, Vitamin E, or a combination of these, and a glycol or combination of glycols selected from the group consisting of: dipropylene glycol, pentylene glycol, hexylene glycol, a combination of dipropylene glycol and pentylene glycol, and a combination of dipropylene glycol and hexylene glycol. The present disclosure relates to compositions that protect the skin and hair from extreme heat (external thermal flux). The compositions include: (a) laponite; (b) one or more UV filters; (c) one or more emulsifiers; and (d) water. The compositions are useful in cosmetic, industrial, and military technologies. The present disclosure relates to sunscreen compositions that are unique in simultaneously protecting skin from heat in while blocking UV radiation. The sunscreen compositions typically include: (a) laponite; (b) one or more UV filters; (c) one or more emulsifiers; and (d) water. The sunscreen compositions are useful for protecting skin from UV damage caused by sun exposure and for preventing heat from reaching the skin. Furthermore, the present disclosure describes methods for using laponite to boost the SPF of sunscreen compositions.
