An electronic eyewear device having temples that are lightweight, aesthetically pleasant, and include thermal management. The temples each have a thermally conductive stiffener with a non-thermally conductive overmolded material forming a window. The window in each temple exposes interior components, such the stiffener to ambient air, and allows heat generated by electronic components to be released to ambient air to cool the components through convection. The windows also allow the stiffeners to be coupled to tooling and are easily overmolded. The windows provide both an aesthetic feature and a functional feature.

A button-switch assembly provides a preloaded force design with an enhanced tactile feel while also providing a non-wobbly (stabilized) configuration and water/dust protection functions. Features of the button-switch assembly include excellent tactile feel through a stack up of a soft rubber layer of a deflection web and a hard PET film shim layer, a consistent pre-loaded push force through use of an angled deflection web, a button flange that minimizes rotation of the button while providing a consistent tactile feel even when the edge of the button is depressed, double sided sealing adhesive layers that seal off the opening in the housing for accepting the button to prevent water/dust from entering the opening, and gluing the button to the rubber deflection web in variable thicknesses to provide a stable tension force to minimize wobble of the button when depressed.

A slide switch with an elastomer web for eliminating slide backlash and rattle. The elastomer web is disposed in the motion path of a mechanical slider and biases the slider to contact a switch nub. The biased slider eliminates a loose translational motion of the mechanical slider and therefore a user's perception of loose motion or backlash when actuating the switch. The elastomer web improves the user's perception of the mechanical slider's quality. Additionally, the elastomer web allows for larger assembly tolerances between the mechanical slider and the switch nub. An increased assembly tolerance improves yield for mechanical parts and reduces the cost of manufacturing.

Eyewear hinge assemblies for eyewear that connect temples to a frame. The hinge assemblies include hinge elements that are attached to the temples in an extended state, which stores an initial amount of energy or pre-load. The pre-load biases the temples inwardly and toward one another. After the temples are placed on the user's head, stored energy in the hinge elements can be released as the hinge elements exhibit elastic recoil. This causes the temples to grip the sides of the user's head in a snug and comfortable fit. The hinge assemblies have compact designs with material properties that provide comfortable closing forces while aiding in the reduction of electromagnetic noise from electrical subsystems in the eyewear.

A hinge assembly mounted on a housing of form part of an electronic device includes a metal hinge base extending through a mounting hole in a wall of the housing, the hinge base being connected in heat transfer relationship to a metal anchor plate on an inner side of the housing wall. The anchor plate additionally serves as a mounting base for heat-generating electronics inside the housing, the heat-generating electronics being in heat transfer relationship with the anchor plate, so that the anchor plate and the hinge base together form part of a heat transfer path conducting heat from the interior of the housing to an exterior heatsink provided be and external device component.

Apparatuses, systems for electronic wearable devices such as smart glasses are described. The wearable device can comprise a frame, an elongate temple and an articulated joint. The frame can define one or more optical element holders configured to hold respective optical elements for viewing by a user in a viewing direction. The temple can be moveably connected to the frame for holding the frame in position when the device is worn by the user. The articulated joint can connect the temple and the frame to permit movement of the temple relative to the frame between a wearable position in which the temple is generally aligned with the viewing direction, and a collapsed position in which the temple extends generally transversely to the viewing direction. The articulated joint can include abase foot fixed to the frame and oriented transversely to the viewing direction.

A hinge assembly mounted on a housing of form part of an electronic device includes a metal hinge member having a hinge post that extends through a mounting hole in a wall of the housing, the hinge post being connected to a metal anchor plate on an inner side of the housing wall to be rotationally and axially fast with the anchor plate. The anchor plate may has an area multiple times the size of a footprint of the hinge member, with fastening the hinge post and the anchor plate in some embodiments being by a welded connection.
