A portable device having a key is interfaced to a host computing device. The host computing device detects the key on the portable device and authenticates a user for using the key. A boot is forced of the host computing device and during the boot a customized image of an Operating System (OS) for the host computing device is loaded into volatile memory of the host computing device and customized security settings are applied to the OS based on a value of the key.

Secure device for bypassing operating system (OS) security

Methods and a System are provided for proving media content was played on a display through capturing of audit information presented in watermarks when the content is played on the display. In a method, content watermarks are generated for content that is to be rendered on a display of a display device. An image sensor that is externally affixed to a corner of the display captures the watermarks as the content is rendered on the display, the image sensor captures the watermarks being played with the content from the area associated the corner where the image sensor is affixed. The image sensor captures the watermarks as images and streams the images back to the display device for storage. The stored watermarks are processed to verify that the corresponding content associated with the watermarks was played by the display device (visually rendered on the display of the display device).

Media content proof of play over optical medium

A format of an Infrared (IR) transmission from an IR remote is matched to a corresponding IR protocol format for a starting sequence associated with the transmission. Next, a format of a payload that follows the starting sequence in the transmission is matched to a payload format associated with the matched protocol format. Assuming both the starting sequence and the payload formats match, the transmission is relayed and/or replayed over an IR re-transmitter situated in proximity to an IR-enabled device associated with the IR remote, and the IR-enabled device processes a command represented in the payload of the transmission. When either the starting sequence fails to match a supported IR protocol or the payload format fails to match a given supported IR protocol, the transmission is ignored and discarded as unverified.

Infrared (IR) transmission verification and relay

Various embodiments herein each include at least one of systems, devices, methods, and software for forced device reinitialization without mandatory restart. One method embodiment includes receiving, by a first device, a first data communication and responding, by the first device, to the first data communication with a second data communication identifying a state of the first device as a reset state. This embodiment further includes receiving, by the first device in response to the second data communication, a third data communication including data to alter the state of the first device from the reset state to a programmed state. Such embodiments may then implement the data of the third data communication to place the first device in the programmed state.

Forced device reinitialization without mandatory restart

A virtualized peripheral driver and filter are installed at a kernel level of an Operating System (OS) on a host device. A new peripheral driver is installed on the host device and added to the peripheral device stack within the OS. Events generated from the user level of the OS are pushed through the stack for processing by a newly attached peripheral of the host device using the new peripheral driver. Events produced from the kernel for the peripheral are trapped by the filter when passing up through the stack to the user level of the OS and provided to the virtualized peripheral driver. The virtualized peripheral driver repackages, translates, and formats the events produced from the kernel as OS events expected by the OS for processing and the repacked, translated, and formatted events are processed by the OS.

Transparent device driver integration

Various embodiments herein each include at least one of devices, methods, and software for coupled device deployment location classification in an automated manner. One embodiment, in the form of a method, includes searching a device tree of a computing device to identify any devices of interest. This method, for each identified device of interest, may then identify a path within the computing device of the device of interest and classify, based on the identified path, a relative location of the device of interest. This method may then store the classification of the device of interest in a memory device of the computing device.
