An invention as provided is a method of preparing a beverage or beverage extract comprising steps of: a. providing an extraction chamber comprising an extractable beverage material, a liquid inlet and a liquid outlet, and b. conveying a liquid into the chamber via the inlet and at least a portion of the liquid out of the chamber via the outlet, and c. conveying at least a portion of the liquid that has exited the chamber from step b) back into the chamber via the outlet and conveying at least a portion of the liquid out of the chamber via the inlet, wherein steps b) and c) are repeated at least twice, and wherein at least a portion of the liquid conveyed into the chamber in at least one subsequent step b), in addition to the first step b), is conveyed into the chamber for the first time.

Apparatus and method for preparing a beverage

A capsule containing a substance for the preparation of a potable beverage. The capsule comprises an aluminum capsule body having a side wall and an outwardly extending flange and a sealing member at the outwardly extending flange for providing a fluid sealing contact with an enclosing member of a beverage preparation device. The beverage preparation device comprises an annular element having a free contact end. The sealing member is integral with the outwardly extending flange and comprises at least one projection projecting from the outwardly extending flange. The projection comprising a projection top and is configured such that its projection top exerts a radial force on the free contact end of the annular element if the capsule is positioned in the enclosing member of the beverage preparation device and the enclosing member is closed using a closing member of the beverage preparation device.

Capsule, a system for preparing a potable beverage from such a capsule and use of such a capsule in a beverage preparation device

A beverage fluid dispensing head comprising a housing; and a fluid track, at least in part, arranged inside the housing. The fluid track comprises: an inlet channel arranged for receiving a beverage fluid, such as coffee, from a beverage apparatus; a collection chamber, fluidly connected to the inlet channel, for receiving the beverage fluid therefrom; and at least one outlet channel. The at least one outlet channel is fluidly connected to the collection chamber for receiving the beverage fluid from the collection chamber. A downstream part of the at least one outlet channel is formed as a tongue-shaped flow guide which is downwardly directed for, in use, guiding the received beverage fluid and submitting the received beverage fluid therefrom in the form of an integral fluid beam for dispensing.

Beverage fluid dispensing head and system

A capsule containing a substance for the preparation of a potable beverage. The capsule comprises an aluminum capsule body having a side wall and an outwardly extending flange and a sealing member at the outwardly extending flange for providing a fluid sealing contact with an enclosing member of a beverage preparation device. The beverage preparation device comprises an annular element having a free contact end which may be provided with a plurality of radially extending open grooves. The sealing member is integral with the outwardly extending flange and comprises at least one projection projecting from the outwardly extending flange. The present invention provides a method of assembling a filter element () with a cup-shaped capsule body () using a combined weld-head () and former (), comprising the steps of positioning the filter element () at or near a mouth of the cup-shaped capsule body (), moving the combined weld-head () and former () so as to contact and drive the filter element () into the cup-shaped capsule body (), wherein, the filter element () is deformed by a sprung-loaded former () of the combined weld-head () and former () to form a cup-shaped filter element (), and using a weld-head () of the combined weld-head () and former () to bond the cup-shaped filter element () to the cup-shaped capsule body (). The present invention further provides a method of making a beverage capsule and a beverage capsule produced using this method.

Coffee capsule

A pod containing one or more beverage ingredients is provided, where the pod comprises a generally rigid outer member () with an open top and an outlet opening in the bottom, with an internal filter () adjacent a bottom portion of the outer member, one or more beverage ingredients disposed above the filter, and a lid () closing the open top. The outer member has an outer peripheral sidewall () defining the open top and extending downwardly from the open top toward the bottom portion and inwardly converging toward the outlet opening. The bottom portion of the sidewall defines a plurality of ribs () extending inwardly in the interior of the outer member toward the outlet opening. Beverage outlet flow paths are disposed between adjacent ribs and directed toward the outlet opening. The filter is supported above the outlet opening and the beverage outlet flow paths by the ribs.

Beverage delivery pod and methods of use and manufacture

An insert for use in a beverage preparation machine of a type comprising a brew head suitable for receiving a rigid or semi-rigid cartridge. The brew head comprises an upwardly directed inlet for supplying water to the brew head, a downwardly directed outlet for outflow of beverage produced by the machine, and a closure mechanism moveable between open and closed configurations. The insert comprises a receptacle and sealing means, the receptacle having an opening through which, in use, a quantity of beverage ingredients may be loaded into the receptacle, a lower portion of the insert comprising an inlet and an outlet. In use, on insertion of the insert into the brew head of the beverage preparation machine and movement of the closure mechanism into the closed position the sealing means is contactable with, and sealable against, the brew head to thereby close the opening of the receptacle to define a I brewing volume containing the quantity of beverage ingredients, and on inserting the insert into the brew head the inlet and outlet of the insert are arranged to communicate respectively with the inlet and outlet of the brew head such that, in use, water from the inlet of the brew head passes upwardly through the inlet of the insert into the brewing volume and such that beverage produced from the water and the quantity of beverage ingredients passes downwardly through the outlet of the insert to flow out of the outlet of the brew head.

Insert, a machine and a system for the preparation of beverages

An insert for use in a beverage preparation machine of a type comprising a brew head suitable for receiving a rigid or semi-rigid cartridge. The brew head comprises an upwardly directed inlet for supplying water to the brew head and a downwardly directed outlet for outflow of beverage produced by the machine, the insert comprises an upper part, a lower part and sealing means, the upper and lower parts being moveable between an open configuration in which a quantity of beverage ingredients may be loaded into the insert and a closed configuration in which the upper and lower parts are sealed together by the sealing means to define therebetween a brewing volume containing, in use, the quantity of beverage ingredients, the lower part passes upwardly through the inlet of the insert into the brewing volume and such that beverage produced from the water and the quantity of beverage ingredients passes downwardly through the outlet of the insert to flow out of the outlet of the brew head.
