An electronic device can include a housing defining an aperture and a display positioned in the aperture. The display and the housing can define an internal volume in which a speaker assembly is positioned. The speaker assembly can include a speaker module and a speaker enclosure in fluid communication, with the speaker enclosure at least partially defining a speaker volume.

Speaker assembly

An electronic device is disclosed. The electronic device includes a shield that provides thermal and electromagnetic interference ('EMI') shielding benefits. The shield is secured with fan assemblies by airtight seals to prevent air leakage and promote a pressured volume when the fan assemblies are running. Further, the shield can direct airflow from the fan assemblies to one or more thermally conductive components, where the airflow can convectively cool the thermally conductive components and exit the electronic device. The shield is made from a metal, and when the shield covers a circuit board, the shield protects an EMI barrier for integrated circuits located on the circuit board. Moreover, the shield can provide a single-piece, monolithic body that provides advantages over multiple shields, such as eliminating gaps in the shield for air leakage and EMI intrusion, increasing air circulation efficiency, and decreasing costs.

The described embodiments relate generally to computing devices including liquid crystal displays (LCDs) and more particularly to methods for attaching a cover glass layer to a structural housing while minimizing an amount of stress transferred through the cover glass layer to the LCD module. A continuous and compliant foam adhesive can be used to bond the cover glass layer to a structural. The compliant bond can absorb and distribute local stress concentrations caused by structural loads, mismatched surfaces and differing thermal expansion rates between various structures and cover glass layer. This can reduce stress concentrations in the cover glass layer that can lead to stress induced birefringence in the LCD cell. In other embodiments, the cover glass layer can be attached using magnets or a tongue and groove design.

Computer display or cover glass/cell attachment to frame

An electronic device can include a housing that at least partially defines an exterior surface and an internal volume of the electronic device, and a display assembly at least partially disposed in the internal volume. The display assembly can include a transparent cover that at least partially defines the exterior surface of the electronic device, a backlight unit disposed between the cover and the housing, a frame coupling the cover to the backlight unit, a portion of the frame at least partially defining an aperture, and an electronic component disposed in the internal volume and extending through the aperture.

Electronic device display assembly

An electronic device can include a housing at least partially defining an exterior surface and an internal volume of the electronic device, and an engagement feature affixed to the housing, the engagement feature including a shaft having a first diameter and a top portion having a second, larger diameter. A display component can be disposed in the internal volume and can define a retention feature including a first orifice having a diameter at least as large as the second diameter and a second orifice having a diameter less than the second diameter and at least as large as the first diameter, the first orifice intersecting the second orifice. The shaft can be disposed in the second orifice, and a securing component can be disposed between the display component and the housing.

Electronic device including a display assembly

An electronic device such as a desktop computer may have a housing with a conductive housing wall and a display mounted to the housing opposite the conductive housing wall. A conductive tongue may extend through an opening in the housing wall to secure the housing to a hinge barrel on a desktop stand. A slot antenna may be formed from a slot element in the conductive tongue. The antenna may be fed by a flexible printed circuit coupled across the slot element or by a feed printed circuit in the housing that is coupled to the conductive tongue by a conductive screw. A conductive sleeve may be placed over the conductive tongue. The stand may be replaced with a mounting bracket.

A structure can include a body having a first surface and a second opposing surface. The three-dimensional structure can include the body defining a first pattern of first cavities extending into the body from the first surface and the body defining a second pattern of second cavities extending into the body from the second surface. One or more first cavities can eccentrically intersect with one or more second cavities to define a pattern of apertures in the body.

Housing construction

An electronic device is disclosed. The electronic device may include a first part coupled to a second part by a fastener. The first part may include a through hole and several spring elements that define the first through hole. The second part may include a through hole and several extensions that define the through hole. The electronic device may include a fastener used to secure the first part with the second part. In this manner, the fastener passes through respective through holes of the first part and the second part. Further, the fastener can engage and deform the spring elements such that the spring elements extend into the through hole of the second part. As a result, the spring elements are displaced and the fastener engages not only the spring elements but also the extensions. The parts may include circuit boards or sheet metal, as non-limiting examples.

The disclosed embodiments related to a component for use in a portable electronic device. The component includes a wall of the portable electronic device, containing an intake zone that includes a set of intake vents. The wall also includes an exhaust zone containing a set of exhaust vents.

Optimized vent walls in electronic devices

A haptic electromagnetic actuator for track pad is provided. The actuator includes an array of electromagnets with alternating South and North poles on a first end, each magnet comprising a metal core and an electrical wire around the metal core. The array of magnets is coupled to a base plate on a second end opposite to the first end. The actuator also includes an attraction plate at a distance from the first end of the array of the magnets such that the attraction plate moves toward the magnets when an electrical current flows through the electrical wire around the metal core and moves away from the magnets when the current becomes zero. The array of magnets is configured to form a uniform gap from the attraction plate.

Haptic electromagnetic actuator

An electronic device may be provided with a display. The display may be mounted in a display housing having multiple display housing layers. The display housing layers may include metal layers and fiber composite layers. A fiber composite display housing layer may have an array of dimples. The fiber composite display housing layer may be attached to a planar metal layer using adhesive. An array of openings may be formed in the metal layer to lighten the display housing. A foam layer or other core may be sandwiched between display housing layers. Components may be embedded in the foam. Edge members may run along peripheral edges of the display housing layers. Electrical components may be mounted on printed circuits and housed within cavities in the display housing. The electrical components may include light-emitting diodes for a display. Heat from the electrical components may be dissipated in the metal layer.
