Methods, systems and devices are provided for motion-activated display of messages on an activity monitoring device. In one embodiment, method for presenting a message on an activity monitoring device is provided, including the following method operations: downloading a plurality of messages to the device; detecting a stationary state of the device; detecting a movement of the device from the stationary state; in response to detecting the movement from the stationary state, selecting one of a plurality of messages, and displaying the selected message on the device.

Notifications on a user device based on activity detected by an activity monitoring device

In one embodiment, a method for generating a message to a friend of a user is provided, comprising: processing activity data of a first user measured by an activity monitoring device to update a value of an activity metric for the first user; identifying a change in an inequality relationship between the value of the activity metric for the first user and a value of the activity metric for a second user; in response to identifying the change in the inequality relationship, prompting the first user to generate a message to the second user.

Fitness activity related messaging

A mobile device is provided, including: a synchronization module configured to receive, at the mobile device, activity data from an activity monitoring device via a wireless connection; an activity data processing module configured to process the activity data to determine an activity metric for a user; a notification generator configured to compare the activity metric against a predefined threshold, the predefined threshold being mapped to a notification message, determine, based on the comparison, that the activity metric has reached or exceeds the predefined threshold, and access an electronic calendar associated with the user to obtain electronic calendar data; a display; and, a notification presenter configured to display the notification message on the mobile device via the display responsive to determining that the activity metric has reached or exceeded the predefined threshold, a timing of the display of the notification message being determined based on the electronic calendar data.

A system comprising at least one server computer having at least one processor programmed to: receive, over a network, activity data of a first user measured by an activity monitoring device; process the activity data of the first user to update a value of an activity metric for the first user; responsive to updating the value of the activity metric for the first user, identify a change in an inequality relationship between the value of the activity metric for the first user and a value of the activity metric for a second user; and, responsive to identifying the change in the inequality relationship, trigger, over the network, a first user device to prompt the first user to generate a message to the second user for display on a second user device.

User messaging based on changes in tracked activity metrics

A method for generating a notification on a mobile device is provided, including the following method operations: establishing a wireless connection between the mobile device and an activity monitoring device; receiving, at the mobile device, activity data from the activity monitoring device via the wireless connection; processing the activity data to determine an activity metric for a user of the activity monitoring device; comparing the activity metric against a predefined threshold, the predefined threshold being mapped to a notification message; determining, based on the comparing, that the activity metric has reached or exceeds the predefined threshold; displaying the notification message on the mobile device after determining that the activity metric reached or exceeded the predefined threshold.

A method is provided, including: processing requests from a plurality of users to join a group event, the group event defined for an activity metric for each of the plurality of users for a period of time; analyzing the activity metrics of the plurality of users to determine a ranking of the plurality of users based on their activity metrics, and to identify a change in relationship between activity metrics of two or more of the plurality of users; generating a message, wherein generating the message includes, identifying, based on the identified change in relationship, one or more user accounts of select ones of the plurality of users to receive the message, selecting a message template based on the identified change in relationship, and populating the message template to generate a message describing the change in relationship; sending the message to the one or more user accounts.
