A method including determining an occupancy state of a building relating to a user, detecting a condition of a component of the security and/or automation system associated with the home, displaying, based at least in part on the determined occupancy state of the user and the detected condition of the component, a message related to the user on a graphical conversational user interface ('G-CUI'). The message include a request for permission from the user to initiate a change associated with the component of the system. The method may include receiving, via the G-CUI, a response from the user including an instruction whether to grant permission to initiate the change based at least in part on the displaying, and generating a rule associated with the component and a future occupancy state of the home relating to the user based at least in part on the received response.

Data related to a premises and an occupant of the premises may be analyzed and one or more observations may be made based on the analysis of the data. Systems and methods are described for personifying communications. According to at least one embodiment, the computer-implemented method for personifying a natural-language communication includes observing a linguistic pattern of a user. The method may also include analyzing the linguistic pattern of the user and adapting the natural-language communication based at least in part on the analyzed linguistic pattern of the user. In some embodiments, observing the linguistic pattern of the user may include receiving data indicative of the linguistic pattern of the user. The data may be one of verbal data or written data. Written data may include at least one of a text message, email, social media post, or computer-readable note. Verbal data may include at least one of a recorded telephone conversation, voice command, or voice message.

Methods and systems are described for managing and adding user profiles to access an automation system. According to at least one embodiment, the computer-implemented method includes receiving a request to add a user to an automation system. The request is generated from one of a mobile computing device or an automation controller of the automation system. The method further includes receiving contact information for the user and generating a message to send to the user. The message includes an invitation to the automation system. The method also includes sending the message to the user.

According to at least one embodiment, an apparatus for controlling settings of an automation system includes a processor, a memory in electronic communication with the processor, and instructions stored in the memory which are executable by a processor to receive instructions about an intended action by a user of the home automation system, continuously detect behavior of the user with the home automation system, determine whether the intended action has occurred based on the detected behavior, and adaptively update one or more settings of the home automation system when the intended action is determined to have occurred.

A method for improving privacy of security cameras is described. In one embodiment, predetermined events are monitored via a security camera. The security camera may include an optical barrier. At least one of the predetermined events is detected via the security camera. Based on detecting at least one of the predetermined events, the optical barrier is repositioned, via the security camera, in relation to a camera lens of the security camera.
