Techniques for enhancing performance in Industrial Internet-of-Things (IIoT) scenarios, including techniques for time-sensitive networking (TSN) and 5G wireless network integration. An example method, performed by a wireless device, comprises receiving system information (SI) from a radio base station (RBS) of a radio access network (RAN), the SI being indicative of support for TSN through the RBS, and establishing at least one TSN stream with an external data network, through the RBS. The example method further includes receiving a first timing signal from the wireless communications network, via the RBS, receiving a second timing signal from the external TSN data network to which the wireless device is connected, comparing the first timing signal to the second timing signal to determine an offset, and transmitting the offset to the wireless communications network.

Industrial automation with 5G and beyond

Embodiments include methods for a user equipment (UE) to synchronize timing with a wireless network. Such methods include receiving, from a first node serving a first cell in the wireless network, a first message that includes an absolute reference time and a corresponding reference event within downlink, DL, transmissions by the first node; and determining whether the UE received, from the first node, a timing adjustment value from which the UE can estimate a propagation delay of the DL transmissions. Such methods include, based on determining that the UE did not receive the timing adjustment value, performing one of the following: transmitting, to the first node, an indication that the UE did not receive the timing adjustment value; or declaring radio link failure with respect to the first cell and establishing a connection with a second cell capable of providing the information included in the first message.

Handling reference time delivery failure in a time-sensitive network (TSN)

Embodiments include methods for a second node configured to serve a second cell in a wireless network. Such methods include receiving, from a first node, a mobility-related message including information associated with a plurality of first reference time information messages transmitted by the first node to a user equipment (UE). Such methods include, based on the received information, determining whether the second node can support reference time information delivery to the UE in the second cell. Such methods include, based on determining that the second node can support reference time information delivery to the UE, transmitting one or more second reference time information messages to the UE, each second reference time information message including an absolute reference time and a corresponding reference event within downlink transmissions by the second node. Other embodiments include complementary methods for the first node and network nodes configured to perform such methods.

Reference time delivery during mobility operations in a time-sensitive network (TSN)

Methods supporting a Quality of Service (QoS) update during a Handover (HO) procedure are disclosed herein. More specifically, methods performed by a Radio Access Network (RAN) node and a Core Network (CN) node for supporting a QoS update during an HO are provided. The methods disclosed herein can facilitate flexible New Generation (NG)-RAN (NG-RAN) deployment with a mixture of NG-RAN nodes capable or incapable of supporting additional parameters in an HO procedure. The methods also make it possible to provide smooth NG-RAN software updates between different software releases.

QoS update handling alternatives during Xn HO

Methods are provided in which a first network node sends a context setup request message to a second network node, the context setup request message not comprising a wireless device (WD) aggregate maximum bit rate (AMBR) value associated with a wireless device, determines that it has not previously provided the WD AMBR value to the second network node in the context setup request message, and then sends a resource setup request message to the second network node, the resource setup request message comprising the WD AMBR value associated with the wireless device. A method of operating a session management network of a telecommunications network is disclosed. The method includes sending to a management network node an accept of a session establishment request of a wireless device; and receiving a message from the management network node, including a session connectivity rejection message sent by a radio access network node serving the wireless device. The session connectivity rejection message indicates a rejection of the acceptance of the session establishment request of the wireless device The method further includes determining that the radio access network did not send the accept of the session establishment request to the wireless device based on the session connectivity rejection message creating a session establishment rejection message; and transmitting the session establishment rejection message toward the wireless device.

Systems, methods, and apparatus for reporting a Downlink Data Delivery Status (DDDS) are disclosed herein. An example method includes a network node generating a DDDS frame including an indicator that a highest transmitted Packet Data Convergence Protocol (PDCP) Packet Data Unit (PDU) sequence number is present in the DDDS frame, an indicator that a highest successfully delivered PDCP PDU sequence number delivered is present in the DDDS frame, a desired buffer size for a data bearer, the highest transmitted PDCP PDU sequence number, and the highest successfully delivered PDCP PDU sequence number. The network node provides the DDDS frame to a second network node.
