The invention is concerned with .DELTA..sup.3 -4-carboxy cephalosporin antibiotics possessing a 3-vinyl or substituted 3-vinyl groups as well as with phosphorous intermediates useful in the preparation thereof.

The invention is concerned with .DELTA..sup.3 -4-carboxy cephalosporin antibiotics possessing a 3-vinyl group and having 2,2-disubstituted acetamido group at the 7-position.

The compounds may be unsaturated at the 1(2), 8(9) or 9(11) positions. The compounds possess anaesthetic properties.
