The invention provides a radio frequency (RF) valve control system that replaces mechanical systems that physically links a button or a handle to a flush valve or hard wired electronic control systems that physically links a sensor/electronic switch to a valve actuator within a plumbing installation. The new system is characterized by two modules, a user interface module (UIM) for locating at or adjacent a plumbing fixture (such as a water closet or urinal), and a valve interface module (VIM) operatively connected to a flush valve actuator or a valve in the water supply line of the plumbing fixture. The UIM generally has the function of providing an RF valve control signal to the VIM and the VIM has the functions of receiving, analysing, and responding to the RF valve control signal and sending a signal to the valve actuator to initiate a flush cycle or initiating a valve control process to control a valve within the water supply line to start or stop water flow to the fixture. The system may be deployed as a single UIM/VIM pair or as multiple UIM/VIM pairs within a multi-fixture installation. In each case, each UIM/VIM pair communicates with its respective UIM or VIM in both a learning and active mode.

System and method for improved installation and control of concealed plumbing flush valves

A system for remote operation of a personal hygiene appliance which includes any one of a toilet flush valve, a faucet, a shower head, a soap dispenser, a hand dryer, and a paper towel dispenser, includes an electric operator associated with each appliance for causing operation thereof. A radio receiver is associated with each appliance, which, upon receipt of a message unique to that appliance, will cause its operation. There is a triggering device, remote from the appliance, which may be for example an infrared sensor or a manually operated switch for signaling an intent to cause operation of the appliance. There is a transmitter and a receiver associated with the triggering device. Each triggering device associated transmitter is programmed to transmit a message unique to that specific appliance. There is an indicator located at each triggering device and a receiver associated with the indicator. When the triggering device transmits a message unique thereto, it is received at the appliance receiver which will cause operation of the appliance and will cause the appliance transmitter to send an acknowledgment message back to the triggering device receiver, which in turn will activate the indicator indicating that the transmitted message was received.

System for remote operation of a personal hygiene or sanitary appliance

A plumbing control system includes a plurality of plumbing fixtures operated by an electronic control board having a microprocessor. The control board can form a node on a network that monitors and controls the functions of multiple boards throughout a facility from a central computer. Network software running on the central computer communicates with the control boards. The software includes a binding feature that requires reporting of a network operating variable at a first control board to the central computer or a second control board. The network software also has site and device setup forms.

An apparatus and method for controlling plumbing fixtures includes an electronic control board having a microprocessor that accepts four inputs and produces four outputs. Inputs at other than the microprocessor's operating voltage are converted thereto. Outputs having different voltages are controlled by latching relays. The control board can be used with a Smart Sink that requires a sequenced hand washing. The control board can form a node on a network that monitors and controls the functions of multiple boards throughout a facility.

A fuse protected power supply circuit for a sensor-operated solenoid controls plumbing fixtures such as automatically-operated faucets, automatically-operated flush valves, hand dryers, soap dispensers and the like. The circuit includes two automatically resettable fuses, one to protect the power supply circuit if the AC-operated solenoid should short and a second to protect the power supply circuit in the event that the sensor which detects the presence of a user of the plumbing device should short. The automatically resettable fuses provide a simple and reliable troubleshooting method in that replacement of either the sensor or the solenoid, depending upon whether one or both are in a shorted condition, allows the circuit to return to normal operation. Such troubleshooting may be undertaken by a maintenance person without the need of sophisticated electronic meters or similar troubleshooting devices.

Fuse protected power supply circuit for a sensor-operated solenoid

A battery-powered, sensor-operated flush valve for controlling water flow through a toilet room device such as a urinal or water closet includes a flush valve body with an inlet and an outlet. There is a valve mechanism for controlling flow through the flush valve body. A solenoid is attached to the flush valve body and has a piston which is positioned to contact the valve mechanism relief valve. The solenoid is in circuit with a battery and a sensor whereby a user of toilet room device will cause battery power to be applied to the solenoid coil, which will in turn move the piston to contact the relief valve to institute a flushing operation.

Method and apparatus for properly sequenced hand washing

A soap dispenser includes a soap supply, a motor driven pump connected by tubing to the soap supply and a soap output device connected by tubing to the motor driven pump. The electric drive circuit for operating the pump motor includes a sensor for detecting a user's hands positioned to receive soap from the output device. There is a forward motor control circuit connected to the sensor and to the pump motor and responsive to a start signal from the sensor to drive the pump motor in a forward direction to supply soap to the output device. There is a volume adjust circuit connected to the forward motor control circuit and to the sensor to provide a stop signal to the forward motor control circuit a predetermined time period after receipt of a start signal from the sensor. There is a reverse motor control circuit connected to the pump motor and to the volume adjust circuit and responsive to a stop signal from the volume adjust circuit to drive the pump motor in a reverse direction to reverse the flow of soap to the output device.

Anti-drip liquid dispenser

A soap dispenser utilizes an infrared sensor for detecting the presence of an object upon which soap will be dispensed. There is a source of soap and a pump connected thereto. A voltage regulator having an adjustable output voltage to control the force at which soap is dispensed, and which may be considered a method of accommodating viscosity of soap, is connected to the pump. The sensor controls operation of the pump and there is an adjustable timing circuit to control the amount of time the pump operates and hence the volume of soap dispensed. A prime circuit is included to prime the pump as conditions require.

An apparatus for controlling flushing of a toilet device detects use of the toilet device and compares the actual number of uses against a preset number of uses which are permitted before flushing of the toilet device. When the actual number of uses equals the predetermined number of uses, the toilet device is flushed. At the first use of the toilet device after flushing, a timing cycle is initiated and the timing cycle will cause flushing of the toilet device unless there is the predetermined number of uses of the device within the period of the timing cycle.

An electric circuit for operating a toilet room soap dispenser includes a sensor and an electric operator, with the sensor providing an operating signal in response to the presence of a person positioned to use the soap dispenser The electric operator, which is responsive to a signal from the sensor, provides a measured amount of soap from the soap dispenser. The improvement is specifically directed to a prime circuit for causing a predetermined number of operations of the electric operator to prime the soap dispenser for normal use, after refilling the soap supply.

An electro-mechanical mixing faucet for proportionally mixing hot and cold water in accordance with a user-selected mix ratio. A user-adjustable temperature selector produces a mix signal which adjusts hot and cold water valves to permit flow in amounts which will produce the desired temperature. The temperature selector includes a bank of LED's for indicating the selected temperature. When a user actuates the temperature selector, the LED's turn on brightly to indicate the selected temperature and also the water is immediately turned on. Following use of the faucet, the temperature selection is returned to a neutral temperature after a dormant period. An LED flashes when all hot water is demanded.
