An example method for managing transmit powers of a networking device is presented. A network management device is configured to determine an expected path loss value at a receiver of a first networking device based at least on the distance between the first networking device and the second networking device. Further, the network management device receives a measured path loss value relative to the second networking device from the first networking device. The network management device then determines a target transmit power for the transmitter of the second networking device based on the measured path loss value and an offset value. The offset value is determined based on the expected path loss value and the measured path loss value. After determining the target transmit power, the network management device sends an instruction to the second networking device to operate the transmitter at the target transmit power.

Managing transmit power of networking devices

An example method of allocating channels to access points (AP) is presented. A network manager may determine weights of the APs based on a channel metric and a location metric for APs. Further, the network manager may identify a first set of APs based on the weights and allocate a dedicated first channel to each of the first set of APs for its sole use. Accordingly, each of the first set of APs may use a respective dedicated first channel thereby reducing the performance impact on other APs. Further, the network manager may identify a second set of APs based on the weights and allocate second channels for sharing among the second set of APs. Since the second set of APs does not share any channel with the first set of APs, the performance of the second set of APs may not be impacted due to the first set of APs.

Channel allocation in wireless local area network

Systems and methods are provided for ensuring client device connectivity in a deployment pursuant to regulatory updates impacting channel usage or availability. An access point (AP) or AP controller may obtain a client-supported channel list, and detect existence of a regulatory update impacting channel usage in the network device. An AP-supported channel list is compared to the client-supported channel list, and a determination is made regarding which client devices associated to an AP do not support channel usage changes resulting from the regulatory update. Distribution of channels of the AP-supported channel list is controlled among one or more radios of APs in a deployment based on AP density of the deployment, and the determination regarding which client devices do not support the channel usage changes.

Seamless regulatory access point updates ensuring continual client connectivity

A set of AP radios in a wireless network deployment for which configurations are to be deployed is identified. Those configurations deemed to be likely to cause a coverage hole are flagged as high-risk. A candidate deployment order for deploying configurations to the set of AP radios is determined based on deployment ordering criteria. The ordered APs are grouped into candidate deployment batches and a batch refinement process is performed to ensure that no neighbor AP radio is in a same deployment batch as an AP designated to receive a high-risk configuration deployment. The configurations are then deployed to the AP radios in accordance with the refined deployment batches. For any candidate deployment batch that includes a flagged AP radio and a neighbor AP radio, one of the radios is removed from the deployment batch and placed in a re-order list, which is separately subjected to ordering and batching processes.

Mitigation of radio frequency (RF) outages on a wireless network

A set of AP radios to which configurations are to be deployed is identified. A candidate deployment order for deploying configurations to the set of AP radios is determined by an order-deploy algorithm. The algorithm seeks to spread out configuration deployments to AP radios both spatially and temporally such that APs that are located close to one another in the network receive their configuration updates as part of different deployment batches with delay periods introduced between consecutive batch deployments. The algorithm orders the set of APs by iterating through a network factor hierarchy to place APs that share certain network factors such as the same band or channel close to one another in the candidate deployment order and place APs that share certain other network factors (e.g., same switch, RF domain, and/or RF partition) far from one another in the order.

Systems and methods are provided for receiving data indicating a spatial distribution and 802.11ax capabilities of access point radios and of client devices in a network, assigning the access point radios as either first access point radios or second access point radios, the first access point radios conducting data transmission using an 802.11ax wireless standard and the second access point radios conducting data transmission using legacy wireless standards, based on the data, determining whether any of the client devices are to be steered to a different access point radio based on the 802.11ax capabilities of the client devices, and in response to determining that a client device is to be steered to a different access point radio, steering the client device to a first access point radio or a second access point radio.

Redistribution of 802.11ax capable client devices to radios to improve throughput and spectral efficiency

A network controller may include a memory and a processor. The memory may include instructions executable by the processor to receive a message from an access point. The message may comprise an interference event detected on a particular channel, wherein the particular channel is part of a particular channel list associated with the access point and stored at the network controller in a wireless local area network (WLAN). The memory may further include instructions executable to remove the particular channel from the particular channel list associated with the access point. The memory may further include instructions executable to determine a channel plan for a plurality of access points in the WLAN based on a corresponding plurality of channel lists including the particular channel list and deploy the channel plan to the plurality of access points.

An example non-transitory computer readable medium comprising instructions executable by a processor to: determine a channel distribution vector based on a channel priority for a plurality of available wireless channels within a wireless network; receive a set of constraints on a channel plan; determine a channel plan meeting the set of user defined constraints based on the channel distribution vector; and transmit the channel plan to a plurality of radios on the wireless network, wherein the channel plan comprises a channel assigned to each radio of the plurality of radios.

An example access point comprising: a memory; and a processor executing instructions stored in the memory to: determine a first interference event while operating on a first channel, wherein the first channel is designated to the access point in a global channel plan by a network controller based on a global view of a wireless network; switch to operate on a second channel from the first channel for a first amount of time in response to the first interference event; determine a second interference event of the same event type as the first interference event on the first channel, wherein the second interference event is the same event type as the first interference event; and switch to operate on the second channel from the first channel for a longer amount of time than the first amount of time, wherein the second channel is selected based on a local view of the wireless network by the access point.

Examples of the present disclosure include: obtain data collected from a plurality of access points (APs) in a WLAN, including a current allocation of channels to radios of the APs according to a current channel plan; calculate a new channel plan which assigns a different channel to at least one of the radios; calculate a first metric that predicts better network performance achieved by the new channel plan than the current allocation of channels to the radios; determine whether the first metric exceeds a first predetermined threshold; and implement the new channel plan in response to determining that the first metric exceeds the first predetermined threshold.

An example method comprising: assigning at least one band mode specified in the band mode list to a radio of the identified node, assigning a dual band mode to a set of wireless nodes of the plurality of wireless nodes that each satisfy a baseline coverage when operating on a low frequency band of the wireless band mode, assigning a high frequency band mode to a set of wireless nodes of the plurality of nodes based on band capacity, assigning a channel to the radio of the node on the high frequency band based on a band capacity; and responsive to assigning the channel to the radio on the high frequency band, assigning a channel to each radio of the set of nodes on the low frequency band.

A method related to selecting a channel bandwidth may include partitioning the plurality of networks into a plurality (P) of local radio environments and identifying, for the P local radio environments, an available channel bandwidth set comprising a plurality of channel bandwidth values. The method may also relate to determining whether the plurality of channel bandwidth values provide a frequency reuse distance that is greater than a threshold frequency reuse distance, wherein the frequency reuse distance is estimated based at least on the pathloss measurement and, based on a determination that at least one of the plurality of channel bandwidth values provides the frequency reuse distance that is greater than the threshold frequency reuse distance, configuring a channel plan for the plurality of networks with a channel bandwidth value from the at least one of the plurality of channel bandwidth values.

Channel bandwidth selection

The present disclosure discloses a system and method for classifying Wi-Fi signals from Fourier transform samples. Generally, classifying Wi-Fi signals from Fourier transform samples includes: collecting and dividing Fourier transform samples into frequency blocks; determining the bandwidth for the Fourier transform sample; and determining whether the Fourier transform sample corresponds to a narrowband signal. Further, if a determination is made that the Fourier transform sample does not correspond to a narrowband signal, channel utilization is calculated based on a determination that the FFT sample corresponds to a Wi-Fi signal. If it is determined that the Fourier transform sample corresponds to a narrowband signal, then a determination is made that the FFT sample corresponds to a Wi-Fi signal based on certain criteria. The certain criteria may include one or more of a slope value, a number of sub-peak bins, an analysis of adjacent channels, characteristic matching, or other criteria.
