Lubricity additives for fuels compositions are provided which are hydrocarbyl-containing oxygenated polyamines according to Formula I: wherein one or more of —R, —R, —R, and —Ris a carbon- and oxygen-containing group including a hydrophobic hydrocarbyl portion.

Synthetic lubricity additives for hydrocarbon fuels

Lubricity additives for hydrocarbon fuels are provided according to formula I: wherein n is 1 or 0; each Q is independently selected from oxygen and sulfur; each R is independently selected from C8-C60 alkenyl groups which are substituted or unsubstituted; and L is a linking group comprising 0-20 carbons which may be substituted or unsubstituted and may optionally comprise catenary heteroatoms. Fuel mixtures comprising a hydrocarbon fuel; and a lubricity additive according to the present disclosure are also provided. Methods of making lubricity additives comprise reacting an alkenyl succinic anhydrides (ASA's) with certain bisamides or bisthioamides.

Lubricity additives for hydrocarbon fuels are presented according to formula I:R[(—O—R)-Q]  (I)wherein p is 3 or greater; each n is independently selected from integers equal to 2 or greater; Ris a C3-C20 aliphatic hydrocarbon group of valence p which is branched or linear and which is substituted or unsubstituted; each Ris independently selected from C2-C20 divalent aliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbon groups which are branched or linear and which are substituted or unsubstituted; and each Q is independently selected from —NHor a moiety according to formula II: wherein each Ris independently selected from C8-C60 alkenyl groups which are substituted or unsubstituted, providing that at least one Q is the moiety according to formula II.

Disclosed are cloud point depressants and methods of making and using them. The disclosed cloud point depressants comprise copolymers of an unsaturated anhydride polymerized with alkyl &#x3b1;-olefins and then contacted with a phenyl alkyl alcohol or alkyl phenol alkoxylate, fatty alcohol and primary or secondary fatty amine to provide a cloud depressant reaction product. When the disclosed reaction products are added to middle distillate fuels or blends of middle distillate fuels with biodiesel, the cloud point depressants inhibit the precipitation of waxes and/or biowaxes in the fuels and the fuels exhibit reduced precipitation, gelling, and/or crystallization when subjected to low or cold temperatures.

The disclosed cloud point depressants comprise copolymers of a maleic moiety polymerized with alpha olefins and then contacted with an aliphatic tertiary amine to provide a cloud depressant reaction product. When the disclosed reactions products are added to middle distillate fuels or blends of middle distillate fuels with biodiesel, the cloud point depressants inhibit the precipitation of waxes and/or biowaxes in the fuels and the fuels exhibit reduced precipitation, gelling, and/or crystallization when subjected to low or cold temperatures.
