A system includes a pipe string; a wireline cable run through the pipe string; and a downhole tool for formation testing, wherein the downhole tool comprises, an upper assembly, an impeller unit connected to a downhole end of the upper assembly, wherein the impeller unit comprises a first impeller coupled to a second impeller by a shaft, a first flowline having a first end that is open to the formation, a packer unit that isolates a portion of a borehole surrounding the first end of the first flowline from the rest of the borehole, and a tool string connected to the first flowline, wherein the tool string hydraulically connects the packing device to the upper assembly.

High flowrate formation tester

Disclosed herein are methods and system for formation fluid sampling. In at least some embodiments, the method includes pumping formation fluid from a public flow line of a downhole tool via a private flow line into a detachable sample chamber. The method also includes isolating the private flow line from the public flow line. The method also includes collecting measurements of the formation fluid in the private flow line. The method also includes associating the measurements with the detachable sample chamber.

Formation fluid sampling methods and systems

A formation tester consists of an upper assembly, an impeller unit, a straddle packer unit, and an inverted reservoir description tool string. The upper assembly seals off the wireline cable at the rig and connects the wireline cable to the formation tester. The impeller unit includes an upper turbine which converts hydraulic power from circulation of drilling mud into mechanical power. The mechanical power is used to drive a lower impeller which is capable of pumping formation fluids at high flow rates. The straddle packer unit isolates a portion of the formation tester which is open to the borehole to allow entry and exit of formation fluids through the formation tester. The inverted reservoir description tool string contains a combination of formation description modules which are inverted from traditional reservoir description tool modules to allow fluid flow paths to bypass electrical components.

A downhole formation fluid viscometer sensor and method therefor include a viscometer sensing package, a flexible diaphragm, a magnet and electric coil, and a signal pickup assembly. The viscometer sensor may also include a first cavity and a second cavity for mechanical and electric energy transfer. The magnet and electric coil may be driven by external alternating current to generate an electromagnetic force. Silicon oil may be used to fill the first cavity and/or a pressure balance hole may connect the first cavity to an external area. The diaphragm may be a titanium alloy and a ferromagnetic magnet may be attached to the diaphragm. The diaphragm preferably has a thickness from about 0.030 to about 0.040 inches and the magnet and electric coil can propel the diaphragm to vibrate at a frequency from 0 to 100 kHz. Formation fluid viscosity is determined using resonant frequency linewidth, with contributions from the sensor package intrinsic properties removed.

Downhole formation fluid viscometer sensor

A downhole sensor package for detecting one or more thermophysical properties of a downhole fluid, comprising a sensor housing having a fluid input port and a fluid output port; an inner flow tube located within and axially defined with the sensor package housing; an outer flow annulus defined between the inner flow tube and the sensor housing, wherein the inner flow tube is in fluid communication with the outer flow annulus; and a vibration source and a vibration detector engaging the inner flow tube; and methods for using the same are disclosed.

Downhole sensor for formation fluid property measurement

System, methods, and apparatuses for determining properties of a production fluid downhole are presented. In one instance, a system includes a sample-filled sensing device for vibrating a first suspended tube containing a sample of production fluid and producing a first response signal. The system also includes a reference-fluid sensing device with a second suspended tube containing a viscosity-tunable fluid therein. The system vibrates the second suspended tube to create a second response signal. The viscosity of the viscosity-tunable fluid is varied until it is deemed to match that of the sample production fluid. Other systems and methods are presented.

Downhole systems for detecting a property of a fluid

In some embodiments, an apparatus and a system, as well as a method and an article, may operate to receive a vibration signal having a frequency and a characteristic (e.g., voltage) proportional to the vibration amplitude of a tube in a vibrating tube density sensor. Further activity may include transmitting the density of a fluid flowing through the tube based on the frequency and an elastic modulus of the tube determined by the value of the characteristic. Additional apparatus, systems, and methods are described.
