A turbine washing system having a water making apparatus at a turbine site having a turbine. The water making apparatus extracts water from air. A water delivery system delivers the extracted water from the water making apparatus to the turbine to clean the blades of the turbine while the turbine is on-line. A water feeder is provided for feeding the extracted water from the water making apparatus to the water delivery system. A method for cleaning turbines on-line comprises extracting water from air directly at a turbine site having a turbine and treating the air and the extracted water to obtain extremely clean water having a conductivity of less than 3. This extremely clean water is then fed to the turbine to clean the turbine blades while the turbine is on-line. Preferably the extremely clean water is fed through a deionizer before being fed to the turbine.

Method and a washing system for washing turbines

An air conditioning unit having: a first air passageway and a second air passageway adjacent to the first air passageway. Dampered air inlets are provided at one end of the first and second air passageways to selectively provide indoor air or outdoor air to each passageway. There is an indoor air outlet in the first air passageway and an outdoor air outlet in the second air passageway, both outlets at the other end of the passageways. There is a first blower in the first passageway and a second blower in the second passageway for moving air through each passageway. The unit has a refrigerant system with an evaporator in the first passageway, a compressor, a condenser in the second passageway, and a refrigerant line joining the evaporator, the compressor, and the condenser, in series, in a closed loop. The unit can be used in an air conditioning mode, a dehumidifying mode and a purge/ventilating mode. The unit is particularly suited for use in an indoor swimming pool.

Air conditioning/dehumidifying unit

A method for cleaning turbines on-line comprises extracting water from air directly at a turbine site having a turbine and treating the air and the extracted water to obtain extremely clean water having a conductivity of less than 3 microsiemens/cm. This extremely clean water is then fed to the turbine to clean the turbine blades while the turbine is on-line. Preferably the extremely clean water is fed through a deionizer before being fed to the turbine.

A portable air filter having a cylindrical, perforated shell with an end wall at one end closing the shell and an end wall at the other end having an opening. A hepa filter is removably mounted within the shell adjacent the perforations. The air filter has a blower unit with a through duct and a fan and a motor in the duct. The blower unit is detachably mountable on the shell adjacent the end wall at the other end with one open end of the duct extending through the opening in the end wall. Air is drawn through the perforated shell and hepa filter into the duct and out of the duct through its other open end away from the air filter.

Portable air filter

A monitoring device for use in monitoring the life of a filter used in the operating unit of an air conditioning system. The monitoring device has a support for use in attaching the device to the housing of the operational unit in the air conditioning system, the unit having a least one air conditioning filter holding filter material. At least one tubular arm attached to the support, each arm having an air inlet and an air outlet. The support is mounted in a manner to have a portion of the air passing through the air conditioning unit pass through the arm on the support as well. A sample filter is provided along with mounting means for removably mounting the sample filter on the arm to have air passing through the arm also pass through the sample filter. The sample filter holds the same filter material as the air conditioning filter.

Media sampling device

A gravity cooling unit having at least one pair of cooling columns with each column having a plurality of cooling fins mounted on one more serpentine cooling coils carrying a refrigerant. The unit has mounting means for use in mounting the unit against a ceiling. The pair of cooling columns are fixed to the mounting means to have the long axis of their fins angled toward each other to form a downwardly diverging air space between them, and to have the short, upper side of their fins adjacent the ceiling, when the unit is mounted on the ceiling, to minimize air flow between the columns and the ceiling. A condensate collector is provided under each column wide enough to extend beneath each coil in the column.

Gravity cooling unit

A new method for defrosting a dehumidifier. The new method minimizes the formation of liquid 'slugs' which can occur during normal defrosting and which can damage the compressor, and also makes the operation of the dehumidifier more efficient. In the new method, defrosting takes place with the fan running to draw warm, room air over the condenser to warm the refrigerant passing through it in reverse, to thus minimize the formation of liquid 'slugs'. The warm air however is prevented by baffles from passing over the evaporator where it would undesirearably pick up moisture from the melting ice on the evaporator. An apparatus for carrying out the above method is also provided.

Dehumidifier

For a supermarket having open refrigerated food display cases and adjacent cold isles and having primary refrigeration systems for refrigerating the cases, energy efficient ventilating means for removing the cold air from the isles and supplying replacement conditioned dehumidified air. The ventilating means includes heat pipes for utilizing the cooling effect of the cold leaving air removed from the isles to precool warm outside make-up air and a reversible refrigerating system for further cooling and dehumidifying the precooled outside air. Excess heat available from the primary market refrigerating system is employed to heat or reheat the dehumidified but now cold outdoor make-up air prior to its entry into the market.

Heat pump with heat-pipe enhancement and with primary system reheat

An outdoor air cooled condenser for a refrigeration installation having at least one refrigeration system circuit and including a condenser coil with a heat transfer surface, a condenser housing having air inlet and outlet means for the passage of air across said heat transfer surface, the outlet means including a primary outlet with air flow control means therefor and a plurality of secondary outlets with air displacement means and damper means associated therewith, sensing means for sensing a predetermined condition of refrigerant in the condenser coil, control circuit means for monitoring and integrating the sensed refrigerant condition with respect to a predetermined ideal condition set point value for the refrigeration system circuit and for operating the air flow control means and air displacement means for controlling the amount of air passing through the housing and across the heat transfer surface.

Non-flooding remote air cooled condensers

An air temperature regulating or conditioning control apparatus for use in a space having one or more refrigerated display fixtures. The fixtures have an open refrigerated display zone separated from the conditioned room space by one or more planes (curtains) of refrigerated air substantially lower in temperature than the conditioned room space, which absorb energy from the room air adjacent these planes thereby causing it to be cooled. The apparatus comprises a housing having a return air chamber and a make-up air chamber isolated from the return air chamber. Each of these parallel chambers has an outlet connected to a mixing compartment for mixing the conditioned air received from both chambers. An air moving means is connected to the mixing compartment for displacing the mixed conditioned air through air flow convection ducts back into the space. Each of the chambers further has an air intake or inlet, a filter section and a cooling section. The inlet of the return air chamber is supplied primarily with air cooled by the refrigerated display fixtures. The room space is maintained at a substantially constant temperature throughout unaffected by the refrigeration effect of the display fixtures upon the room space air.

Supermarket environmental control system

The invention relates to an outdoor air cooled condenser for use in a refrigeration system and a method of controlling the condensing temperature in the condenser. The condenser may be used for one or several closed refrigeration circuits connected thereto. A condenser coil assembly is provided in the condenser and has a condenser coil and a heat transfer surface, the coil being connected to the refrigeration circuit. A housing houses the condenser and has an inlet and an outlet for the passage of air through the housing about the heat transfer surface. The outlet is divided in a primary outlet and a plurality of secondary outlets. A motor-driven fan is provided with each of the outlets. The primary outlet is provided with a controllable damper while the secondary outlets are provided with gravity-operated dampers. A sensor is provided for each refrigeration circuit and is are connected to the condenser coil outlet to sense a predetermined refrigerant condition and feed a signal to a control circuit which analyzes the signal with respect to an ideal condition set point value for the refrigeration system. The control circuit controls the damper of the primary outlet and the operation of the fans to control the amount of air passing through the housing and the condenser coil heat transfer surface in response to changes in the refrigerant condition resulting from heat rejection load changes in the condenser coil or entering air temperature changes in the housing to substantially maintain the refrigeration system operating at the ideal condition set point value.
