Techniques for measuring and reducing signal misalignment in a dual connectivity environment are discussed herein. When using Non-Standalone Architecture (NSA), a device initially communicates with a network using a Long-Term Evolution (LTE) connection. After the LTE connection is established, an LTE base station may instruct the device to measure signal strength of a neighboring New Radio (NR) cell during a specified LTE measurement gap. When the NR cell is implemented by an indoor NR base station, the NR signal may not be sufficiently synchronized with the LTE signal and the device may be unable to measure the NR signal during the measurement gap. In these cases, the device can determine the frame timing difference between the LTE and NR signals, obtain an adjusted measurement gap that reduces any measurement gap misalignment, and attempt to measure the signal strength of the NR cell using the adjusted measurement gap.

An access network can allocate a bearer for a network service associated with a quality-of-service (QoS) value (QV) and a retention-priority value (RPV), and determine a bearer ID for the service based on the QV, the RPV, and a supplemental priority value (SPV) different from the QV and from the RPV. Upon handover of a terminal, session(s) carried by a bearer allocated by the terminal can be terminated. That bearer can be selected using IDs of the bearers and a comparison function that, given two bearer IDs, determines which respective bearer should be terminated before the other. Upon handover of a terminal to an access network supporting fewer bearers per terminal than the terminal has allocated, a network node can select a bearer based on respective QVs and RPVs of a set of allocated bearers. The network node can deallocate the selected bearer.

Various systems, methods, and devices relate to determining a delay associated with a device; calculating a guard time based at least in part on the delay; and scheduling a wireless resource to include a downlink interval, an uplink interval, and the guard time between the downlink interval and the uplink interval. By calculating the guard time based at least in part on the delay associated with the device, spectrum efficiency can be enhanced, and latency can be reduced.

Non-standalone architecture frame alignment

A mobile network is analyzed to determine outage regions for a dual-connectivity functionality that uses multiple wireless technologies provided by non-collocated network sites. In some examples, a network configuration server receives and analyzes the locations of base transceiver stations (BTSs) within the mobile network, along with the coverage ranges and wireless technologies supported by the BTS network sites. Based on the analyses, the network configuration server determines regions within which certain dual-connectivity functionality is and is not supported for user equipment (UE) devices. The network configuration server may calculate the outage region for a BTS network site based on the distances between the BTS network site and other BTS network sites providing different wireless technologies for the dual-connectivity functionality. Various elements of the mobile network, including the BTS network sites and/or user mobile devices, may be configured based on the determined outage regions.

Dual-connectivity outage detection and remediation for non-collocated network sites

A first access node of a first wireless access network receives, via a first entry node of the first network, a service-request message from a terminal registered with the first network. The first access node requests first network-capacity information associated with the first wireless access network from the first entry node, and second network-capacity information associated with a second wireless access network from a second access node of the second network. The first access node selects a target access network based on the service-request message and the first and second network-capacity information. The first access node, in response to a selection of the first wireless access network, sends a service-reply message to the first entry node. The first access node, in response to a selection of the second wireless access network, triggers a handover of the terminal to the second wireless access network.

A connection between mobile terminating (MT) user equipment (UE) and a base station can be established by receiving a paging message at the MT UE from the base station that includes a page reason indicator indicating that the MT UE is being paged for a voice call, and, at least partially in response to receipt of the paging message, sending a Radio Resource Control (RRC) Connection Request message from the MT UE to the base station that includes an establishment cause indicating that the MT UE is requesting a connection with the base station for the voice call. The establishment cause indicating that the MT UE is requesting a connection for a voice call can allow the base station to prioritize the MT UE's RRC Connection Request message over RRC Connection Request messages from other UEs in congested conditions.

Prioritization of mobile terminating radio resource control connections

A mobile communications device is configured to implement dual connectivity, using both a Long-Term Evolution (LTE) radio and a 5-Generation (5G) radio, for communicating with respective base stations of a cellular network. A primary transmission uplink is established in a first radio frequency band using the LTE radio. The device may then receive a request to establish a secondary transmission uplink in a second frequency band. Upon receiving the request, the device determines whether it can support concurrent use of the primary and secondary frequency bands while maintaining adequate receiver sensitivity. If the device cannot support such concurrent use, the device refuses the request. In addition, the device provides data indicating the degree by which certain performance parameters would be out-of-tolerance if the secondary connection were to be established.

The techniques described herein enable a commercial cellular service provider to use a repurposed portion of spectrum to provide cellular service to a customer base while ensuring that the use of the repurposed portion of spectrum does not interfere with a previous use of the repurposed portion of spectrum by an incumbent entity. The techniques determine, and manage the use of, forbidden cells and clean cells. A 'forbidden' cell is a cell in which a previous use of spectrum by an incumbent entity is protected. A 'clean' cell is a cell that can be freely used by the commercial cellular service provider without a possibility of interference with a protected use of the spectrum by the incumbent entity.

Cellular communications spectrum management

This disclosure relates to cell selection of a telecommunication device based on mobility management algorithms for idle mode cell selection routines and handover routines. The mobility management algorithm can utilize the BTS class of the infrastructure equipment to help determine cell selection. The BTS class of the infrastructure equipment can be used to determine the geographic size of the coverage area that the infrastructure equipment provides. These algorithms can be used to help handle mobility management for telecommunication device.
