Disclosed herein is an efficient optical scanning system takes the output of a multi-laser bar emitter with high divergence and delivers a combined beam of long vertical stripes of optical power that have a nearly top hat distribution along a vertical scanning axis and a narrow width along a horizontal scanning axis. This line footprint of the combined beam is scanned by a mirror onto a scene for use as ranging light in a distance measurement system.

An optical module includes a fast-axis mirror that scans a laser beam along a fast-axis, a magnification mirror set formed by three discrete mirrors shaped to magnify the laser beam as it is scanned along the fast-axis and reflect the laser beam after magnification toward a slow-axis mirror that scans the laser beam along the slow-axis, and an Offner mirror relay that receives the laser beam as it is scanned along the slow-axis and reflects the laser beam out an exit aperture. An apparatus for enabling audible communication between an animal and a remote handler of the animal comprises a flexible strap configured to be worn by the animal, and a bone conduction transducer coupled to the flexible strap and capable of receiving a signal representing a message from the remote handler. The bone conduction transducer is configured to generate physical vibrations based on and representative of the signal representing the message from the remote handler. The bone conduction transducer is positioned or positionable on the flexible strap so that when the flexible strap is worn by the animal, the vibrations are conducted to a skeletal structure of the animal to enable the animal to audibly perceive the message from the remote handler.

An animal-wearable head-mountable display (AW-HMD) device comprises a head fitting designed to fit the head of an animal, and an output subsystem coupled to or integral with the head fitting and configured to output a signal to the animal. The embodiments described herein provide scanning laser devices that include a relay optic between scanning surfaces. In general, the relay optic is configured to reimage the laser beam reflecting from a first scanner onto the second scanner. Specifically, the relay optic is configured to reimage a laser beam reflected from over an angular range from a first scanning surface of a first scanner onto the scanning surface of the second scanner. This can effectively make the exit pupil of the scanners substantially coincident, and thus can reduce the exit pupil disparity between the scanners that would otherwise exist.

The embodiments described herein provide scanning laser devices that include an output optic configured to reduce image distortion. Specifically, the output optic is configured to reduce the distortions that could otherwise occur at relatively short projection distances, while also providing good image quality at relatively long projection distances. In general, the output optic includes a prism having a first surface, a second surface, and a third surface. The prism is configured such that the laser light interacts with each of these three surfaces while being transmitted through the prism and outputted to the display surface. The first, second, and third surfaces are each formed to have a freeform rotationally asymmetric shape, and these freeform rotationally asymmetric shapes are configured to work together to correct distortion in projected images.

Scanning laser projectors with improved short projection distance image quality

Telecommunication devices each having projection apparatuses capable of projecting ambiently displayed images at locations proximate to the telecommunication devices on surfaces that are substantially parallel to planes formed by the telecommunication devices are described herein. The telecommunication devices also have logic configured to provide predistorted images to the projection apparatuses, the predistorted images appearing without distortion when projected by the projection apparatuses on the surfaces in the ambiently displayed images.

An optical relay () includes a glare trap () that in one embodiment has one or more surfaces configured to reflect light impinging the surface () at an angle less than a first angle () relative to a normal line (), and to transmit light impinging the surface () at an angle greater than a second angle () relative to the normal line (). In other embodiments, the glare trap () reflects light impinging at an angle greater than a first angle and transmit light impinging at an angle that is less than a second angle. The separation between the first angle () and second angle () can be on the order of 20 degrees or more, but this angle can be reduced or eliminated when polarized light is used within the optical relay ().

Optical relay for compact head up display

Briefly, in accordance with one or more embodiments, an optical relay for a head up display, the optical relay comprises a glare trap having angularly selectivity by being capable of reflecting light having an angle of incidence greater than a first angle, and being capable of transmitting light having an angle of incidence less than a second angle, and a first optic arranged to receive light reflected off the glare trap at an angle of incidence greater than the first angle, and to direct light through the glare trap at an angle of incidence less than the second angle to exit the glare trap.

A display apparatus includes an image source, an eye position detector, and a combiner, that are aligned to a user's eye. The eye position detector monitors light reflected from the user's eye to identify the pupil position. If light from the image source becomes misaligned with respect to the pupil, a physical positioning mechanism adjusts the relative positions of the image source and the beam combiner so that light from the image source is translated relative to the pupil, thereby realigning the display to the pupil. In one embodiment, the positioner is a piezoelectric positioner and in other embodiments, the positioner is a servomechanism or a shape memory alloy.
